First, today's weather:

Pumpkin spice is not the only thing we long for in Roseville these days; cooler temperatures are on the wish list too. But alas, it is not to be. The expected high today is a red hot 105 degrees with the evening cooling down to 71. Winds remain light in the 5-10 mph range. At least the humidity is a nice low 25%.

Here are the top stories in Roseville today:

  1. You try to take an extra day off one weekend and all heck breaks loose. Our hard working Cal Fire crews spent the holiday weekend fighting yet another wildfire near the Foresthill Bridge in Auburn. As of press time yesterday, the Bridge Fire was 25% contained after burning over 411 acres. Old Foresthill Road is still closed between Highway 49 and Foresthill Road while crews concentrate on mop up of the scorched area. (Roseville Today)
  2. Things really heated up yesterday for the folks in the Woodcreek Oaks and Junction neighborhood when they were hit with an unscheduled power outage. City crews were still on the case, trying to figure out the cause, at press time yesterday. The City of Roseville Utilities has a web page where utility users can get up to the minute information on power issues at roseville.ca.us/outages. (Roseville Utilities Facebook)
  3. Roseville fashionistas mourn the closing of Saks Off 5th, but we could soon get a Bob's Discount Furniture to fill the space at 1252 Galleria Blvd. Bob's sells furniture, mattresses and home décor at several Sacramento area locations. (Subscription: Sacramento Business Journal)
  4. In other "what are we getting in Roseville" news, The Fountains is looking to fill current vacancies with hair care retailer Madison Reed, a Nick the Greek restaurant (this would be the second Roseville location) and an outlet of The Shade Store, according to executive vice president of Inter-Cal Real Estate Corp (parent company of The Fountains) Paul Bollinger. (Subscription: Sacramento Business Journal)
  5. As I've noted before in the Roseville Daily, Roseville's awesomeness is no longer our best kept secret. Real estate prices are soaring as everyone wants to come live us here in the 'Ville. There were 63 real estate sales in Roseville last week, according to an article in the Sac Bee, with an average price of $587,802. The most expensive house sold last week went for the cool sum of $1.1 million. (Subscription: Sacramento Bee)
