First, the weekend weather:

The weather is going to be great this weekend! Clear skies and expected highs of 74 degrees today, 78 tomorrow and 70 on Sunday are just the thing to inspire some outdoor activity after a long, scorching, smoke-filled summer. Overnight lows should be in the high 40s to low 50s. Winds will be light today and tomorrow, but Monday could be gusting at 20-40 mph. Daytime Humidity is expected to be about 40% today, 47% tomorrow and 24% on Monday.

Here are the top stories today in Roseville:

  1. New legislation cracking down on street racing and "sideshows" was signed into law by Governor Gavin Newsom on Thursday. The Assembly Bill 3 is the first to legally define sideshows as "two or more vehicles block or impede traffic on a highway, for the purpose of performing vehicle stunts, speed contests, or reckless driving, for an audience." AB3 also outlines stiffer penalties, up to losing driving privileges for six months, for these infractions. (East County Today)
  2. With the cooler temperatures and actual snow (!) expected in the Sierra this weekend, it's easy to forget that we are still at risk for wildfires in Northern California. Be aware that the National Weather Service has issued a Fire Weather Watch that includes Western Placer County for Sunday night through Tuesday evening (Oct. 10-12). High winds, low humidity and abundant dry fuel are ideal conditions that can lead to a fast moving wildfire. (Weather.gov)
  3. Sacramento has a reputation to uphold as the “Farm to Fork” capitol of the universe. And that reputation extends to the food offerings at Golden 1 Center. About 90% of the food and beverages available at the venue are locally sourced within a 150 mile radius. Newly added fare for the 2022-23 NBA season includes innovative dishes like chicken artichoke pizza, tacos de papas, ube hot chicken sliders, vegan nachos and tacos, and a Beyond Meat burger. The new menu items can be found at the Plaza and Bridge levels at Sacramento Kings games and other Golden 1 events. (ABC 10 and subscription: The Sacramento Bee)
  4. The Federal Bureau of Investigation (FBI) is shining a spotlight on hate crimes in a newly launched campaign to raise awareness and support victims all over the country. In concert with these efforts, our local FBI Sacramento Field Office here in Roseville has placed print ads in its 34-county region to educate the public about hate crimes, provide information about their Civil Rights Program and direct victims to resources. • Unless you live under a rock (hey, no judgement here), you know that the San Francisco Giants and the Los Angeles Dodgers are in a duel to the death for the National League Division title. Well, okay, it's actually a series of five totally non-lethal baseball games. But, this rivalry is one that goes back many years, and reaches a fever pitch every time they meet on the field. Check out this cool video as you root, root, root for the home team this weekend. (Twitter)
  • I don't know about you, but I am beyond excited about the snow coming back to our poor, thirsty Sierra Nevada forests. This quick video from Good Day Sacramento, captioned “Caldor Fire blanketed in snow," made me happy. I hope it makes you happy too! (Instagram)
