Here are the top stories today in Roseville:

  • The Caldor Fire in El Dorado County is on most of our minds as our neighbors to the east anxiously watch its unusually fast progress. Exhausted firefighters battle the blaze as Mother Nature works against their efforts with plentiful dry fuel, low humidity and gusty winds. As of press time yesterday, the fire had burned over 53,772 acres, destroyed 86 structures, injured two civilians and caused the evacuation of over 6,800 residents. (Gold Country Media)
  • As Roseville continues to grow in both population and development projects, the once-stalled Placer Ranch master plan is getting new life with a $100 million purchase of 2,213 acres in the unincorporated area between Roseville and Lincoln. Roseville-based Taylor Builders Inc. expects to have about 5,600 homes, 5 million square feet of commercial space and 334 acres of park and recreation facilities built by the project’s completion. The project will also encompass the 300 acres slated for a future Placer County campus for California State University, Sacramento. (Subscription: Sacramento Business Journal)
  • The foodie scene is another aspect of Roseville that is growing. A new high-end taqueria is coming to Highland Village, the center next to the Galleria that already boasts popular eateries Eureka! and Lazy Dog. The restaurant will feature cuisine based out of Mexico City. (Subscription: Sacramento Business Journal)
  • It was an evening of WINS for our Sacramento Kings on Tuesday as they took the NBA Summer League Championship in a 100-67 win over the Boston Celtics. The cherry on top was the King’s Davion Mitchell being named Co-MVP of the Summer League, sharing the honor with the Brooklyn NetsCam Thomas. (NBA.com)
