Catalytic Converter Thefts on Rise at Park and Ride Lot

Roseville Police are providing extra patrol at a city Park and Ride lot due to a high number of recent catalytic converter thefts.

Attention Park and Ride users: Catalytic converter thefts have increased at the Taylor Road and I-80 Park and Ride lot; the good news is that Roseville Police are providing extra patrol at the lot.

Roseville Transit released information notifying Park and Ride users that over the past month, the Roseville Police Department has seen an unusually high number of catalytic converter theft reports from cars parked during the day at the Park and Ride lot at Taylor Road and I-80. In an effort to catch the thieves, the Roseville Police Department is providing extra patrol to the lot.

The thieves most often target Toyota pickups and SUVs, and other models of vehicles that are high off the ground and easy to crawl under, according to Roseville Police. If you have a less-targeted vehicle, such as one that is low to the ground, Roseville Police recommend you use that for your daily commute trips to the Park and Ride.

If you've been the victim of catalytic converter theft, please call the Roseville Police Department at 916-774-5000 to make a report.

Catalytic converters are expensive emission control parts mounted under the chassis of vehicles. Thieves crawl under the vehicle, unbolt the converters or cut them off, and then sell them to metal recyclers. The thieves work quickly and quietly. Victims usually find out their catalytic converters have been stolen when they start their vehicles and hear a very loud, raspy noise.
