First, today's weather:

And we’re up again, Roseville! Partly cloudy skies won’t keep the temperatures down today and probably won’t give us any rain. We’re looking at an expected high of 74 degrees and an overnight low of 47. Winds should remain in the 5-10 mph range.

Here are the top five stories today in Roseville:

  1. It’s no secret that catalytic converter thefts have risen significantly in Placer County. The number of reported thefts in Roseville for the first three months of 2022 is nearly double over the figure from last year. Yikes! Read on to see what local law enforcement is doing to combat the issue, and what you can do to protect your property. (Gold Country Media)
  2. You voted for it – now check out the new playground structure chosen for Royer Park! This kid utopia will take the place of the equipment currently located near the tennis and basketball courts. And it will be built using Prop 68 City funds. I didn’t see any definitive dates for the start of construction, but the City is welcoming additional feedback from the public up to April 15. 3. A search of a suspiciously parked vehicle on Auburn-Folsom Road near Camino Oro in Granite Bay Wednesday uncovered a baggie of heroin, an 8.5 inch knife and a homemade explosive device. Yevgeniy Onopkov of Sacramento was arrested at the scene and is facing multiple charges. (CBS 13)
  4. The redistricting process changed some of the previous district boundaries in Placer County, affecting more than 24,000 households. Be on the lookout for a postcard in the mail to let you know if your district has changed. Or visit the county’s website and check out the new map so you know what district your residence falls under and which supervisor represents you on the Placer County Board of Supervisors. (Facebook and Placer.gov)
  5. Help may be on the way for community college students feeling the crunch from a lack of affordable housing in California. Traditionally commuters, community college students have cited housing and transportation concerns as the two biggest barriers to their academic success. Four colleges, including our own Sierra College in Rocklin, have been recommended by the state’s Department of Finance for tens of millions in funding to create more affordable student housing. About me: My name is Kelly Mays Risse, and I have lived in Roseville just about all my life. I graduated from Roseville High School and majored in Journalism at CSU Sacramento. My husband and I loved growing up and raising our three boys here in the 'Ville. I have watched Roseville evolve from a cheerful little railroad town to a large and diverse city. I love where we live, from the hiking trails to the hip new restaurants, and I love the people who live here. I am excited to bring the highlights to you in The Roseville Daily!
