Here are the top stories today in Roseville:
- An assistant director at the Roseville wastewater facility has been charged with five felony counts related to misappropriation of public funds. Kenneth James Glotzbach allegedly diverted $300,000 to hire Marisa Tricas in August of 2019 without consent from the city, pay her moving expenses from Washington D.C. and pay for her tuition at Lincoln Law School. Glotzbach was arrested last Friday and later released from the South Placer Jail on $20,000 bail. Glotzbach, employed with the city for 23 years, ended his employment Wednesday. Tricas is still employed with the city. (California Times News and subscription: Sacramento Bee)
- You all probably remember the article I posted on Tuesday about a healthcare workers strike being averted. So, about that … you are probably wondering why there were strikers in front of Kaiser Roseville yesterday and again today. Apparently, one union that did not reach a deal with the healthcare giant is the Local 39 Operating Engineers that represents about 600 Kaiser workers. They have been on strike for eight weeks. Several other unions have joined them on the picket in a “sympathy strike” outside 21 Kaiser facilities in Northern California, hoping a show of solidarity will be enough to end the stalemate. (KCRA 3)
- As of yesterday, state officials have opened availability for any adult in California to get a third dose of the COVID vaccine, or "booster" as some are calling it. Previously, the third dose was reserved for people 65 or older, people having an at-risk health condition or anyone working or living in high COVID risk areas. The MyTurn appointment website has been updated to reflect the change. Officials hope that high vaccination counts will help stave off another surge of infection like that in winter of last year. Roseville Patch Notebook:
- There’s nothing quite like the utter panic you feel when you’re drowsing all warm and snugly in bed in the morning, and you hear the garbage truck pull up, remembering you forgot to put the can out. Noooo! You never have to endure that feeling again if you sign up for a free text, email or phone reminder from the City of Roseville. Mr. Risse and I are both signed up. I figure between the two of us the trash should hit the curb on time. (Instagram)
- Fans of A Part Café in Downtown Roseville are heartbroken as the eclectic Middle Eastern cuisine restaurant counts down its last days of café service. As a “thank you” to their customers, A Part is offering specials and a few of their throwback favorites on the menu. The space will reopen in December as a mostly catering establishment with some ticketed prix-fixe meal events. (Facebook and website)
- Students at Woodcreek High School were treated to a fashion show of traditional clothing from their Afghan classmates this week. The school is holding a Donation Drive of new and gently used items (see the list of suggested items here) to help support Afghan refugees. Well done, Wolfpack! (Instagram)
- Merryhill Elementary & Middle School in Roseville showed some love to the animals at the Placer SPCA by holding a Donation Drive. From all the smiles in these pics, it’s hard to tell who is more excited – the students or the four-legged recipients! (Instagram)
- Meals on Wheels is looking for volunteers to help deliver noon meals to Roseville area seniors. It looks like the commitment is about 2 hours, one day a week. Give them a call if you have time serve our seniors. (Facebook)
