On Monday, August 9, 2021, at 12 noon, Union Pacific Railroad will be testing their emergency notification siren. Residents in the vicinity of the rail yard may hear the test siren. This test is being held outside of the normal testing that occurs on the first Monday of every 3rd month (January, April, July and October) at 12 noon. During the July test an issue was identified with the system and work has been done to make the necessary repairs. The final step to ensure the system is fully functioning is to test the siren. Here are steps that we recommend all residents take to prepare for any emergency that might affect our region:Register for Placer Alert (www.placer-alert.org). This is an emergency notification system used by our Fire and Police departments to notify residents of emergency situations that may affect them and would be used in conjunction with the Union Pacific siren should there be an incident at the railyard where residents needed to be notified. If you wish to receive these notifications on your cell phone, you have to register your information.Be prepared should you need to evacuate. More tips on how to be prepared can be found at www.ready.govSome emergency notification systems (such as a siren) can only transmit limited data and in the case of the siren only to a limited area. Many times information during emergencies remains dynamic and can change frequently. We encourage all residents to be signed up to receive emergency alerts (www.placer-alert.org) and to know where to look for additional verified information when they receive or hear a notification. The following locations are places that may contain pertinent information during an incident:• Roseville Policewww.facebook.com/rosevillecaliforniapolice https://twitter.com/RSVL_Police• Roseville Fire https://www.facebook.com/RosevilleFire https://twitter.com/RSVL_Fire• City of Roseville Website www.roseville.ca.usYou do not have to have a social media account to follow the links above. We encourage residents to only call 9-1-1 should they be experiencing or witnessing an emergency.
