First, the weekend weather:
The weekend will be chilly with highs in the mid-40s and overnight lows in the mid-30s on Saturday and Sunday. There's very little chance we'll get rain until Monday night. Winds should remain light at about 3-7 mph and humidity is looking high around 95% on Saturday on Sunday.

Here are the top four stories in Roseville today:
- Santa has been touring the neighborhoods in Roseville and Rocklin for a few weeks, much to the delight of all the good little children. And, okay, the adults got pretty excited too, from what I witnessed on my block Thursday night. There is so much more to this beloved local tradition than you might guess looking on from your sidewalk. Dive down the chimney (or just follow the link) to learn more! (Roseville Press Tribune)
- We have the latest data from the U.S. Department of Health and Human Services for Placer County (up to December 3rd), detailing COVID-19 hospitalization rates for Sutter Roseville Medical Center, Kaiser Foundation Hospital and Sutter Auburn Faith Hospital. While the percentage of beds occupied by COVID-19 at each facility is still in the range considered a “cause for concern,” it is well below what would constitute an “immense stress” on the hospitals’ resources, according to health experts. Check out more statistics on the national, state and county levels by following the link. (Patch.com)
- We are on a roll with the redistricting process in our area this week! The City of Roseville approved our new election district boundary map earlier this week, and now we have a new district map for Placer County as well. If you’ve been following the county redistricting process, the map adopted by the Placer County Board of Supervisors on Tuesday is Hybrid 2.0 Option 1. Learn more about the newly reconfigured districts in this article. And stand by for a new state-level map! (Gold Country Media)
- The presents aren't even opened yet, and here's The Roseville Daily talking about recycling the tree and cardboard boxes. Why? Because it's never to early to have your plan in place for keeping your holidays (ever)green! Our good friends at Roseville Today are making it easy for us to recycle those live trees and mountains of Amazon boxes with a comprehensive list of locations where you can dispose of your holiday detritus. This weekend in Roseville:
- Take your littles to a Magical Morning at Market at Denio’s Farmers Market & Swap Meet for a "Frozen" meet-and-greet, including singing and storytelling with Elsa and Anna. There’s a rumor it might even SNOW … Saturday, 10:00 am - noon
- Can’t get up to the mountains this weekend to enjoy all that new snow? Come to the Galleria for a Snow Party on the Promenade! The whole family will shiver with delight as you enjoy snow flurries (yes, you read that correctly), an arctic bounce house, snow cones, holiday music and a complimentary hot cocktail for the grownups. Saturday, noon - 3:00 pm
- Get your art appreciation on at Blue Line Arts’ 3rd Saturday Reception. Peter Combe, the artist behind the gallery's current Superstudio exhibit, will give a lecture starting at 4:00 pm, followed by live music, beer, wine and soft drinks in the gallery. Click on the link to register for this free event. Saturday, 4:00 pm - 8:00 pm
- The Roseville Theatre Arts Academy Community Choir and the Vernon Street Players invite you to A Holiday Celebration! This night of live music and vignettes is sure to melt even the Scroogiest of hearts. Tickets are $10 online. Saturday, 7:00 pm - 8:30 pm
- Join Snoopy and all the Peanuts gang as they try to figure out what Christmas is all about in the timeless classic “A Charlie Brown Christmas” on KVIE channel 6. (also available to stream via the PBS Video app) Sunday, 7:30 pm
- Have fun and create a beautiful “Poinsettia” masterpiece to decorate your home – or give as a unique gift. Just in time for Christmas! Tickets are $45 for this Painting & Vino class at Back 40 Texas BBQ. All materials are included in the price; food and beverages are available for purchase. Monday, 5:30 pm - 8:30 pm
From my notebook:
- Adelante High School’s Resource Officer, Chad Quirarte, has gone above and beyond to help the school’s athletes get some much needed sports equipment. Officer Quirarte knew, living in the amazing town of Roseville, that reaching out to local businesses, churches and organizations was the way to go. Nearly $11,000 has been raised for the AHS athletic program AND Officer Quirarte has found himself coaching four of the school’s teams! (Instagram)
- "Roseville Fire Captain Davidson was able to get a picture with Santa! We also think our brothers and sisters of Roseville Police were trying to get a picture with Santa, but really they were just looking for a picture with a Roseville Firefighter!" LOL, Roseville firefighters! Thanks to everyone who made Neighborhood Santa a magical success again this year. (Facebook)
- If you have ever had a fun time in Roseville over the last 39 years, chances are you have Kathy Barsotti to thank for it. Kathy’s a born and bred Roseville gal who started working as a part-time Aquatics Recreation Aide for the City of Roseville while still in high school. She just retired after spending the past 22 years as Roseville’s Parks & Recreation Manager. Roseville grew bigger over those years, and Kathy was there to make sure the fun grew right along with our town. Thanks for all the good times, Kathy! (Facebook)
- We should start to see more fresh crab in stores soon — just in time for those of you who like to serve it for your New Year celebration. The presence of humpback whales along the Sonoma/Mendocino County coastal region (Fishing Zone 3) delayed the commercial crabbing season this year, but the fishery will open on December 29th. Crab fishing is not allowed when there are whales in the area as the fishing equipment can cause harmful entanglements to the whales. (Facebook)
- The Little Free Libraries concept really took off in Roseville during the months of pandemic lockdown. One Rosevillian I know even got creative and installed a Little Free Puzzle Exchange in front of their house on Diamond Oaks Road. But this is the first time I’ve heard of a Little Free Seed Library — and it’s brilliant! Spring is around the corner, green-thumbed friends, so let’s get these going in Roseville! (Facebook)

About me: My name is Kelly Mays Risse, and I have lived in Roseville just about all my life. I graduated from Roseville High School and majored in Journalism at CSU Sacramento. My husband and I loved growing up and raising our three boys here in the 'Ville. I have watched Roseville evolve from a cheerful little railroad town to a large and diverse city. I love where we live, from the hiking trails to the hip new restaurants, and I love the people who live here. I am excited to bring the highlights to you in The Roseville Daily!
