Temperatures should keep us cooking again today with an expected high of 103 degrees. The evening will cool down to around 65. We should have some slight breezes at about 5-10 mph and the humidity is holding at around 36% during the day.

Today’s Top 5 Stories You Need to Know About:

1. An honor procession was held yesterday morning to transport the body of Cal Fire Apparatus Engineer Chris Wurster from Kaiser Roseville to Hooper and Weaver Mortuary in Nevada City. Fire and emergency vehicles lined the overpasses along route while crews stood at attention. Wurster lost his battle with cancer on Saturday. He had worked for the Nevada-Yuba-Placer unit of Cal Fire for 13 years. He leaves behind a wife and two young children. (CalFire)

2. Can you outrun the police? It’s a strange question to ponder for most of us law-abiding citizens, but our Roseville Police want you to give it your best shot at the 4th of July Annual Run Crime Out of Roseville. The last day to register for the run is Thursday, July 1. There are several options for adults and children, including a virtual option for the wallflowers. Proceeds from the event support the department’s anonymous tip program, community education and sponsorships for high school students looking to go into first responder fields. (RPD)

3. Congratulations to Joel Manfredi, Woodcreek High School’s varsity baseball coach, on winning the Sacramento Bee’s All Metro Coach of the Year title in the large school division! This was Manfredi’s first full season with the Timberwolves, who finished the season with a 22-4 record and a Capital Valley Conference League Championship. (SacBee)

4. UC Davis Health has you covered this summer – literally! They are once again sponsoring the blue and yellow BrightGuard sunscreen dispensers in key locations around Roseville: Mahany Park, Maidu Park, Vernon Street Town Square, Crabb Park, the Roseville Aquatic Center, Johnson Pool, Mike Shellito Pool, Woodcreek Golf Club and Diamond Oaks Golf Course. (CoR)

5. Good news for theater loversBroadway officially reopened over the weekend after closing up shop in March of 2020. The autobiographical theatrical concert "Springsteen on Broadway" was the first show to open, with proceeds from opening night going to several charities. Tickets are being sold now for several shows in Sacramento, including "Hamilton" which opens September 15. (CBSlocal and TheWrap)

About me

My name is Kelly Mays Risse, and I have lived in Roseville just about all my life. I graduated from Roseville High School majored in Journalism at CSU Sacramento. If you recognize me, it may be from St. Clare Church, where I have worked for the past 10 years. Or maybe from the myriad activities my husband and I have been part of while raising our three boys here. I have watched Roseville grow from a cheerful little railroad town to a large and diverse city. I love where we live, from the hiking trails to the hip new restaurants, and the people who live here. I am excited to bring the highlights to you!
