Here are the top five stories today in Roseville:

  1. The Rocklin Unified School District will implement the California Universal Meals Program beginning with the 2022 – 2023 school year. All students will be offered free breakfast and lunch. (Roseville Today)
  2. More than 3,400 Sierra College graduates received their diplomas on May 19 and 20. The youngest graduate was 16 and the oldest was 72. There are 46 veterans and 28 former foster youth earning degrees from Sierra College this school year. Congratulations to all of the graduates! (Roseville Today)
  3. This one is from the next county over, but it is receiving such media attention, I think it's important for us in Placer to be aware. Sacramento County public health officials are investigating a “likely” case of monkeypox virus related to travel in Europe, officials announced Tuesday morning. If confirmed, this would be California's first monkeypox case. The patient still needs confirmation testing, but officials say monkeypox is likely based on symptoms. The person is isolated at home, and officials said the risk to the general public is "extremely low." (KCRA3)
  4. The Placer County Sheriff’s Office has been awarded a $580,000 Byrne Justice Assistance Grant for body-worn cameras. According to Placer County Sheriff Devon Bell, implementing body cameras has been his priority since 2017, and the funding, along with the supervisors’ commitment, will assist the department with moving forward with the program. The cameras will be worn by deputies in the field, correctional officers at jail facilities and court bailiffs. (Gold Country Media)
  5. Most Roseville City offices are closed Monday, May 30, in observance of Memorial Day. Refuse service follows its regular, daily pick-up schedule. The city remains staffed to provide safety and emergency services, but administrative offices and public counters are closed. See the list of what is closed and what is open at this Roseville City link. (roseville.ca.us)
