DUI Checkpoint Leads to Arrests

Three drivers were arrested on suspicion of driving under the influence during a DUI and driver’s license checkpoint July 9. The ’s traffic unit screened 686 drivers and three were arrested for suspicion of DUI. On vehicle was also impounded because the driver did not have a valid driver’s license. The checkpoint was held on Auburn Boulevard near Whyte Avenue in Roseville. Roseville's checkpoints are funded by a grant from the California Officer of Traffic Safety.

Beware of Craigslist Scams

A Roseville resident was the victim of a Craigslist scam last month while trying to sell her computer. According to Roseville Police, the resident sold a computer to someone on Craigslist and the buyer paid using a PayPal account. After the buyer picked up the computer, he cancelled payment and told PayPal representatives that he had never received the computer. A week later, the woman saw her computer listed for sale again on Craigslist. She contacted the seller, pretended to be an interested buyer and contacted police. Officers arrested the suspect, a 24-year-old male from Elk Grove, on suspicion of possessing stolen property and a Sacramento County warrant for theft.

OnStar Helps Police Find Stolen Vehicle

OnStar notified Roseville Police of an OnStar-equipped stolen Cadillac sedan parked in Roseville Square around 4:15 p.m. July 11. As officers arrived, the two suspects, both teenaged males, drove away. Officers followed them to Bonita Avenue near Riverside Avenue, where the stolen Cadillac collided with a parked car. The teens took off on foot, officers surrounded the area and within an hour, both teens were in custody. One teen was located hiding in a business and the other was found in someone’s backyard.

The juveniles, runaways from Nevada, where they allegedly stole the car, were both taken to Placer County Juvenile Hall on suspicion of vehicle theft and evading police officers, according to Roseville Police.

Vehicles Spray Painted With Obscenities

Sometime overnight on July 10 and 11, several vehicles in the area of Gilleland, Marblethorpe and Bettencourt were spray-painted with obscene pictures and writing.  The victims were likely targeted because they had teenage children living at home. Fortunately the vandals used washable paint.
