Man Attacked by Burglars
A man was attacked by burglars after he arrived home and found three burglars in his home on March 29 around 5:40 p.m.

The Weston Way resident was punched in the face by the burglars before they ran out of his back door with resident’s property.

Roseville officers responded and searched the area, including the greenbelt and nearby areas in Orangevale, with the help of neighboring law enforcement agencies, but were unable to locate the suspects.

The victim suffered minor facial injuries from being punched, but declined medical attention at the scene.  The suspects entered the house by breaking a back window, and took some collectible china figurines and small electronic items (an iPod, a cell phone, and a laptop computer).

A Roseville officer searched the greenbelt area again the next day and found most of the victim's stolen property where it had been dropped by the fleeing burglars.

The suspect who assaulted the resident was described as a white male adult in his mid-20s, 6'0 to 6'1" tall, with a slender build and blue eyes.  He wore a black ski mask over his face, a long-sleeved brown shirt and blue jeans.  The other two were described only as wearing dark clothing.

Home Burglaries

Three residential burglaries or attempted burglaries were reported in the Sierra Gardens neighborhood between March 22 and March 31.  The first burglary happened sometime between March 22 and March 28 in the 1500 block of Swallow Way, while the residents were away.  It appears that the unknown burglar went through the side gate and then forced open the side door into the garage to gain entry to the house. A jewelry box containing costume jewelry was taken.

The second burglary in this area happened sometime between 10 p.m. on March 29 and 9 a.m. on March 31.  Someone broke the front door of a house in the 1700 block of Meadowlark Way while the residents were gone, and took jewelry and other items.

At 5:30 a.m. on March 31, officers responded to audible alarm activation at a house in the 600 block of Loretto, and found that the front door had been kicked open. The residents were away. Nothing appeared to have been taken, so it's possible the burglars were scared off by the alarm.

Roseville Police Tip: In each of these three incidents, as in other recent burglaries in east Roseville, the residents were out of town when the burglars hit. In many cases, the residents had motor homes that were normally stored in a side yard or were parked in front of their house while they were getting ready to leave. The burglars appear to be watching the neighborhood for residents loading up their motor homes, or other signs that residents are planning to leave town. Burglars tend to flee if an audible alarm activates or if they find out someone is home.

Prevention measures could include a well-maintained audible alarm system, a metal security screen door over the front door, and/or having a trusted house-sitter stay in the house when you're away.  RPD is actively investigating these burglaries and providing more patrols in the area.

Break-in at Crestment Elementary School

Crestment Elementary School was burglarized on at 5:06 a.m. on April 1. Officers responded to an alarm at the school and found that someone had broken a window and rummaged through the school office. It's unknown what or if anything was taken.

The Roseville Police Department said most schools are in recess this week for spring break and that it is common for schools to be burglarized or vandalized during vacation periods. If you live near a school, keep an extra eye out and call police immediately if you see trespassers or other suspicious activity.

Robbery

At 5:59 p.m. on April 1, a 14-year-old boy was walking on the sidewalk along Woodcreek Oaks Boulevard near Arsenault when a white 1990s Jaguar four-door sedan, possibly an XJ6 model, stopped next to him.

A passenger got out of the car, displayed a black handle sticking out of his waistband (implying he had a gun), and demanded the boy's iPhone. The suspect then snatched the phone from the boy's pocket and got back in the car.  T

he car was last seen being driven northbound on Woodcreek Oaks Boulevard.  The robber was described as a black male in his late 20s or early 30s with black shoulder-length hair in dreadlocks.  He was about 5'10" tall with a medium build, and wore a baggy white t-shirt and blue jeans.  The driver was described as a black male, also in his late 20s or early 30s with short black hair, wearing a Chicago Bulls hat, baggy white t-shirt and possibly blue jeans.

Road Rage

At about 5:15 p.m. on March 29, two motorists got into a road rage incident on Baseline Road between Foothills Blvd. and Country Club, and one motorist pointed a handgun at the other motorist.

The armed motorist, a white male in his 20s, 5'9" tall and 165 pounds with "scruffy" facial hair, was wearing a gray baseball cap, white t-shirt and shorts.  He was driving an older dark blue Isuzu pickup.

RPD Tip:  Never engage in a dispute with other motorists, even if you feel you're in the right. You don't know how they might react. If you're threatened by another motorist, don't engage with them, drive to a busy area with other people around, and call 911.

Commercial Break-Ins and Burglaries

Around midnight the night of March 29/morning of March 30, someone broke the windows of a bagel shop and a yogurt shop along in the Rocky Ridge Town Center on Douglas Boulevard and took the cash boxes from the cash registers.

Overnight on March 26/27, someone smashed the door of a restaurant in the 900 block of Sunrise Avenue and rummaged in the cash register and safe area.  Nothing appears to have been taken.

At about 4:08 a.m. on March 31, someone smashed the door of a gas station/convenience store in the 900 block of Sunrise Avenue and took the cash register.

Vehicle Break-Ins

Overnight on March 31/April 1, someone smashed the window of a vehicle parked on Dagget Court and took an expensive purse.  The victim's debit card was soon used at an area gas station.

RPD Tip: Don't leave your purse or wallet in your vehicle.

Between 1:45 and 6:40 p.m. on March 30, someone went into an unlocked car parked in a commercial lot in the 300 block of North Sunrise, rummaged through the car and removed the stereo.

Between 4 and 6 p.m. on March 31, someone went into an unlocked vehicle parked at Sunsplash and took a purse and a wallet that had been left in the center console.

RPD Tip: Never leave your purse or wallet in your vehicle, and make sure your vehicle is securely locked.

Overnight March 28-29, someone broke into a car parked in a hotel parking lot on Fairway Drive and took a duffle bag and a laptop computer.

RPD Tip: Anytime you stay in a hotel, here or in any other city, remove your valuable property from your vehicle.

At 7:06 p.m. on March 27, a citizen witness saw someone going from vehicle to vehicle trying door handles in the lot of a fast-food restaurant in the 1800 block of Taylor Road.  He called police, providing a description of the suspicious person. Roseville officers responded and contacted the suspect, who was still at the scene.  A 22-year-old male from Antelope was booked on suspicion of vehicle tampering. As far as we know at this time, no vehicles were broken into and nothing was reported stolen.

RPD Tip: This was a great example of citizens reporting suspicious activity promptly.  Anyone going from car to car peering inside or trying the handles is definitely "suspicious", and should be reported immediately to police.
