Here are the top stories in Roseville today:
- If you're in Downtown Roseville, you may notice crews working on the vacant City-owned building at 401 Oak Street. Remediation, demolition and grading work is set for fall and winter and will prepare the 1.87 acre site for future use. Unfortunately, you can expect noise in the vicinity as well as large trucks entering and exiting the site. Areas closed to the public will be marked by signage in advance. (City of Roseville)
- The Roseville City Council approved the use of police body cameras back in July. They have been on the streets for a couple of months now and it's allowing for more transparency in police practices, according to a spokesperson for the department. "We believe this body camera program actually works very well into our community-oriented policing strategy because the accountability and the transparency that comes from being able to tell the accurate story of what happens on the streets of Roseville is really a great benefit," Rob Baquera, the Public Information Officer for the Roseville Police Department, said. Barquera also said Roseville's program has strong support from officers. (ABC10)
- Sewa Sacramento is hosting its second Diwali Parade of Lights in Roseville. The event is scheduled for 5:30-7:30 p.m. Sunday, Nov. 7. The parade will travel about five miles and is part of Sewa Sacramento's month-long food drive to collect food donations and distribute the items to local food pantries and food banks. "The philosophy behind Diwali is to go from darkness to light. And usually, it happens on the darkest night of October or November and we light lamps or candles in the nighttime outside our houses," Sacramento Chapter Coordinator, Paresh Sinha, said. (ABC10)
- During Wednesday’s regular meeting, the Roseville City Council approved a special tax to form the Torrente at Sierra Vista Community Facilities District. The project is for 159 residential units, with plans for 115 low density and 44 medium density units, officials said. There are no bonds being issued at this time, according to the staff report. Prior to bond issuance, a preliminary official statement and other related documents will be presented for council approval. (Gold Country Media)
- Folsom will honor the nation’s veterans at the 21st annual Wayne Spence Folsom Veterans Day Parade starting at 9 a.m. Thursday, November 11. This year’s parade lineup includes more than 2,000 participants with marching bands, floats, classic cars, horseback riders, color guards, and a variety of community groups. The parade will begin on East Bidwell Street near Montrose Drive and finish at Folsom Lyon's Park with a brief ceremony to honor local veterans at the Veterans Memorial. (Roseville Today)
