Good Morning, people of Roseville!

It's me again, Kelly Risse, your regular host of The Roseville Daily. Thanks again to Jeri Karges of the Sacramento Patch newsletter for filling in last week. I hope you had fun with her!

It's a new week, with new stuff to tell you about. So, ...

Let's get to it!

First, today's weather:

Find out what's happening in Rosevillefor free with the latest updates from Patch.

We've got a pretty good chance of rain showers this morning with overcast skies all day. The expected high is a brisk 60 degrees with an overnight low of 50. Winds should be light and variable at 4-16 mph and humidity will be around 82% during the day.

Here are the top stories in Roseville today:

  1. Downtown Roseville is the heart of our city in more than location. Revitalization projects of the corridor have had many ups and downs over the past couple of decades, but seem to have gained real traction in recent years with the addition of new businesses and city/merchant events. Our friends at Roseville Today ask "Has Downtown Roseville Finally Arrived?" in this incisive article. What do you think? (Roseville Today)
  2. Moon-gazers throughout North America will have a front row seat to view what NASA is calling the longest lunar eclipse of the 21st century this Thursday night, November 11th. Expected to last 3 hours, 28 minutes and 23 seconds, the celestial event will peak around 1:00 am on Friday morning when the moon will turn red. So far, the forecast predicts clear skies for watch parties, but if clouds try to block the fun, there will be a livestream on YouTube. (Roseville Patch)
  3. There has been a lot in the news recently about the affordability (or lack thereof) of housing in our area. But take heart, Placer County is helping homebuyers with a series of webinars on opportunities for homeownership, down payment assistance programs and general information about the whole home buying process. The series begins this Saturday, November 13th with a segment specifically for West Placer County. (Placer County News Release and Facebook)

Today's Roseville Daily is brought to you by our friends at Ring, the home security company. Ring does a lot more than doorbells: check out their full suite of smart home products at Ring.com. And thank you Ring for helping to make local news happen in Roseville!

Today around Roseville:

  • A little rain won't dampen the opportunity for local fresh produce and artisan products at the Placer GROWN Farmers' Market at The Fountains today. Be advised, however, that high winds could cancel the event. Check the link here before you head over. 8:30 am-1:00 pm
  • One of my personal favorite combos, Tacos & Tunes, can be found tonight at The Pink Martini. Munch on yummy tacos while enjoying the folk-pop-soul sounds of The New Crowns. 6:00 pm-9:00 pm
  • Again this year, the Festival of New American Music hosted by Sacramento State University will take place virtually due to COVID-19 concerns. The good news is that we can listen and watch the world class performances and lectures from the comfort of our homes. The festival runs all week through Sunday, with the schedule of performances and other information available on the event's webpage. The performances can be viewed on the school's Facebook.

  • Our Roseville Public Works Department wants you to be aware that Washington Boulevard, between Diamond Oaks and Sawtell, will have a lot of construction activity today, tomorrow and Thursday. Signals will be flashing red at the intersections and the road, while open, will have flaggers directing traffic. It may be better to take a detour for a few days if you are headed that way. (Twitter)
  • The "big cats" of the Roseville High School Football Team gave a huge Tiger congratulations to the 8-and-under Jr. Tigers on their undefeated season and championship win on Saturday. "Can’t wait to see y'all on the high school fields in 7 years!!!" I'm sure the "cubs" can't wait either! (Facebook)
  • It might seem early, but the Little League Baseball 2022 season will be upon us before you can snarf down a ballpark hotdog. All Roseville leagues are registering right now and Woodcreek Little League is looking for Jr. Umpires. (Instagram)
  • Our Placer County Sheriff's department will have more resources to combat underage drinking thanks to a $50,000 grant from the State of California and a new partnership with the California Department of Alcoholic Beverage Control. The money will be used for community training sessions, school presentations on the dangers of underage drinking and undercover operations targeting businesses selling alcohol to minors. (Instagram)
  • When a picture is worth a thousand farewells and a smile can light an entire stadium ... well wishes on your post MLB SF Giants adventures, Buster Posey. I'm not crying - you're crying, sniff. (Twitter)
