Here are the top five stories today in Roseville:

  1. Applications are being accepted for Roseville's newest affordable housing apartments, Main Street Plaza. Per Roseville Today, Main Street Plaza will have retail markets on the ground floor. [It] is nearby to the Roseville Rail Station, Royer Park and bike paths. Residences range in size from 786 square feet to 1,067 square feet. Rent currently begins at just $949 per month with a $500 deposit. These cuties are right in Historic Old Roseville and have two- and three-bedroom options, a fitness center and a bike storage area.   2. The Sacramento Bee is highlighting Rocklin Unified School Board candidate Jen Brookover in a video it has posted to its site. Brookover has worked in education her whole career, is currently a counselor working to help first generation students apply for college and she is a mom, herself, with six-year-old twins in Rocklin schools. She said she wants to bring civility back to the school board meetings and start to focus on the kids again. Hear here statement at this Sac Bee link. (No subscription required.) (Sacramento Bee)
  3. A dramatic situation unfolded on Gold Mine Court in the American River Canyon area of Folsom on Sunday. At 4:48 a.m. fire units were dispatched with reports of smoke coming from a garage. When they arrived, Folsom police were already on scene and confirmed the location of a victim that was trapped in the garage. “Fire crews made the victim rescue the highest priority by aggressively attacking the fire so they could make access into the garage space,” Folsom Fire Battalion Chief Clint Madden said. “Crews made access to the victim and removed the person from the building. The victim was immediately transported to U.C. Davis Medical Center for treatment.” First responders also rescued a cat and a dog from the garage. Three of the first responders sustained minor injuries and were treated at local hospitals. There was no information on the condition of the victim in the home at the time of this writing.
