Here are the top five stories today in Roseville:

  1. It's not unusual to see a driver when you're on a golf course. It is unusual if that driver is in a car! A man who had been pulled over in rural Lincoln led police on a chase that reached speeds in excess of 115 miles per hour and ended after the driver plowed through a fence at the Sierra Pines Golf Course in Roseville. Police suspected the man of driving under the influence and when they pulled him over in Lincoln he gave them a driver's license that allegedly did not belong to him. After the wild chase, Chris Allen, a 47-year-old from Orland, was arrested on suspicion of evading an officer, obstruction, providing false information, driving under the influence and for multiple felony warrants. 2. A big thank you to all of the alert Roseville residents who help the PD do their job on the daily. Here's one: on Friday, August 19, a resident called in a suspicious vehicle in the 10000 block of Fairway Drive. As officers arrived on scene, two suspects (male and female) walked away from the car. Yuba City resident Schuyler Brown, 39, was still inside the vehicle. Police officers could see a narcotics pipe in plain view. After searching the vehicle they found more paraphernalia along with narcotics and a loaded firearm. Police canvassed the area and found the other two suspects on foot. All were booked on several charges including possession of a loaded firearm and possession of narcotics for sale. Thanks to our residents for staying vigilant and reporting suspicious activity! 3. Placer County's top crops by value included almonds, rice, walnuts, beef cattle, and nursery this year. The value of the crops produced was up 10% over last year, with almonds up a robust 48%! “The state of the agricultural industry in Placer County is strong,” said Placer County Agricultural Commissioner Josh Huntsinger. “Our agriculture community continues to be blessed by healthy water systems and strong partnerships with Placer Grown and Visit Placer.” (Roseville Today)
  4. Does your child struggle to learn math? (Yeah, they're not alone. Math is tough.) Roseville native and Lincoln resident Navi Riar who created a tutoring business called Ready, Set, Learn says the key is to make math a “hands-on” learning experience. "“Using blocks, pennies or play dough can really help your child experience math in a way that can be very beneficial for them,” Riar said. In two and a half years, Riar has grown her tutoring business through virtual sessions and a "math camp" for local students. This year Goddard School of Rocklin will adapt Riar’s math curriculum and she will offer tutoring services to their students. Thank you, Navi, for helping make math more accessible to our students! 5. The City of Rocklin’s Art Task Force and the Parks, Recreation, and Arts Commission are looking for artists to submit ideas for a sculpture to be designed and placed in the Rocklin Road & Pacific Street Roundabout in Rocklin’s Historic Quarry District. According to the city "this sculpture will honor Rocklin’s heritage and take a peek into the future, while making a lasting impression on the community through public art." The project must incorporate a minimum of 20% of the materials salvaged from the historic Big Gun Quarry site. (City of Rocklin)
