  1. Sixty-seven years since Effie Yeaw herself began leading tours in the neighborhood known as Deterding Woods, the nature center is gearing up for its Spring Gala & Auction 2022, set to begin at 5 p.m. Sunday, June 5, at 2850 San Lorenzo Way in Carmichael.   2. The name of the man killed in a fight at a temporary housing site for the homeless in Roseville has now been released. According to the Placer County Coroner’s Office, 67-year-old Anthony Simon was the victim in Monday’s incident at a Project Roomkey site along the 100 block of North Sunrise Avenue. (CBS Sacramento)
  3. No one was injured, but one person was detained after a road rage incident in Rocklin. The incident happened Thursday afternoon at the corner of Sunset Blvd. and Park Dive ending in the Safeway parking lot. (CBS Sacramento)
  4. Undersheriff Wayne Woo and Sergeant Brandon Bean will face off in the June 7 primary election for the Placer County Sheriff-Coroner-Marshal position.   5. Cal Fire has suspended all burn permits for outdoor residential burning within the State Responsibility Area of Placer, Nevada and Yuba counties. The suspension takes effect Monday, May 23, and bans all residential outdoor burning of landscape debris such as branches and leaves. The department may issue restricted temporary burning permits if there is an essential reason due to public health and safety. (Roseville Press Tribune)

  • With just weeks remaining until the June 7 statewide direct primary election, the Placer County Elections Office is facing a shortage of volunteers to serve in precincts throughout the county. Volunteering can be a great fundraising opportunity for service clubs or community organizations. Staffing an entire precinct can earn a group up to $900.   • Rattlesnake season is here. During summer months you may encounter wildlife, including rabbits, ducks, coyotes and even rattlesnakes on the trails. Please be alert, especially if visiting with your children and pets. (Instagram)
  • Vernon Street Town Square spray ground will be closed today due to a rental for SPCAs Woof, Wine & Dine. It will reopen on Sunday. Crabb Park spray ground is open all weekend, though! (Instagram)
