Good Friday "is primarily about letting the spoken words of Scriptures and the prayers and responses we offer present our complicity, our guilt and our need for repentance in the face of the execution of Jesus. That is why this is the starkest day of the Christian year. This is also why Christian worship spaces on this day have had no adornments, no gold in sight anywhere, no paraments, nothing at all on the Table, no pulpit Bible, nothing but a simple wooden cross and an empty font."
