Synchronized Swimming/Largest Human Floating Pink Ribbon

The Sacramento Synchronized Swim Team and United States Synchronized Swimming are proud to partner with the Sacramento Valley Affiliate of Susan G. Komen for the Cure and the California Skin Cancer Prevention Program to bring a unique and memorable event to California.  From October 13-16, 2011, the Roseville Aquatic Center will be the site of the U.S. Masters Synchronized Swimming Champioships.  Swimmers ranging in age from 20-99 (men and women), representing the US and Canada will compete in overall team and individual titles in the solo, duet, trio and team events.  This national competition provides the platform for the culminating event- The Guinness Worlds Records attempt of "The World's Largest Human Floating Pink Ribbon".  To officially set this record, over 250 swimmers must connect head to foot while floating on the surface of te water to create the formation of the Susan G. Komen Running Ribbon, and must do this without touching the bottom of the pool.  The "head" of the running ribbon will be made up of breast cancer survivors, including: two-time U.S. Olympic Gold Medalist in synchronized swimming, Karen Josephsen, WMBA Monarchs star, Edna Campbell, local TV-personality, Tina Macuha; and the Executive Director of the Sacramento Komen Affiliate, Donna Sanderson.  The floating event will also serve as a fundraiser benefitting the Sacramento Affiliate of Susan G. Komen for the Cure.   Float participants will purchase a $10 commemorative pink swim cap to wear during the float with 100% of the proceeds going to the Sacramento Affiliate.  In addition to booths focusing on breast health education, the St. Joseph's Medical Center Mobile Mammography Unit, which is housed on an 18- wheel tractor trailer, will be onsite Saturday, October 15, 2011 to provide tours.  The public is invited to come out to watch the four-day competition and Guinness World Record attempt.  Thre are approximately 50 spaces for individuals who have some prior synchronized swimming experience to join the world record attempt.  Registration begins September 26, 2011, at www.worldrecordfloat.com and costs $25.  Competition begins Thursday, October 13 and runs through Sunday, October 16.  Schedule is as follows:
