Here are the top stories today in Roseville:
- Evil Dead The Musical is back at Sutter Street Theater in Folsom for it's 11th run! According to the theater's Allen Schmeltz, you don’t need to be a fan of Evil Dead to love this show. “You don’t need to be a fan of horror to love this show. You don’t even need to be a fan of musicals to love this show. As long as you like having fun… this show is for you. Plus it’s the only show with a splatter zone, a section of the audience that gets covered in fake blood," noted Schmeltz. So, get yourself into the spirit of the season and bring your garbage bags to cover up! The show runs through October 31st. (Folsom Telegraph)
- The Placer County Board of Supervisors provided approval Oct. 12 for the Department of Parks and Open Space to submit an application for grant funding for county park improvements. The approved grant of $633,810 will be used for projects at Dutch Flat Pool, Sheridan Park, Griffith Quarry Park and Martis Valley Trail. (Gold Country Media)
- A marijuana dispensary is suing South Lake Tahoe, after the city council revoked its cannabis and business licenses for failing to open on time. The dispensary was awarded one of two licenses to sell cannabis in the region in November 2019, but the agreement stipulated that the business had to be open within one year. The company, Perfect Union SLT, blames the pandemic for its inability to open within the stipulated timeframe. The council voted unanimously in June to revoke the licenses. After the year deadline passed, City Attorney Heather Stroud gave the company 30 days to cure its default or at least start the process of curing the default but she said it failed to do so. - Snow was a welcome sight in the Sierras this week, not only for ski bunnies and kids with sleds, but for firefighters as well. The snow in the Truckee area helped quash the smoldering Caldor Fire. Though the wet weather won’t immediately put an end to the Caldor Fire, U.S. Forest Service spokesperson Sarah Wheeler says it’s helping to finish it off. According to Wheeler, fires could continue to burn through the winter months despite the snow, though. It's going to take a lot of moisture to put out all of the embers that Mother Nature created. - This year the Squaw Alpine Transit Company (SATCo) will partner with Placer County to offer free on-demand service through TART Connect between Olympic Valley and Tahoe City on Friday and Saturday evenings. “We are also pleased that Placer County in partnership with SATCo is expanding TART Connect to offer service between Olympic Valley and Tahoe City on weekend evenings. This will give Olympic Valley guests and residents a convenient way to get to and enjoy all that North Lake Tahoe has to offer.” said Joy Doyle, SATCo executive director. This winter, Mountaineer’s free, on-demand shuttle service will operate from December 10, 2021 through April 10, 2022 daily between the hours of 7:00 a.m. to 10:30 p.m. in Olympic Valley, and on Saturdays, Sundays and holidays* from 7:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m. in Alpine Meadows.
