- Our beloved Placer County Fair seems ages away, but organizers are already hard at work on 2022's event - and they need your help! In true county fair spirit, our community is asked to help come up with next year's slogan. Simply submit a five-word phrase that showcases the sheer awesomeness of Placer County to the online contest site. A panel of judges will pick a winner to be announced on November 8th. The winner gets four free tickets to the 2022 Placer County Fair. And, of course, whatever fame and fortune naturally come with being the slogan author. (Roseville Today)
- If you've been following the Placer County redistricting process, you know that county residents have had the opportunity to submit alternatives for the new district lines (changed every ten years after the census). The maps have been made public and will be reviewed and analyzed by the redistricting commission at a public meeting on November 4th. Take a look! (Gold Country Media)
- Anyone who has ever had occasion to travel highway 99 south of Sacramento knows how frustrating the route has become. Too many motorists on not enough lanes has earned the corridor the reputation of being one of the most dangerous roadways in the country. Caltrans will implement a new program, borrowed from our friends in San Diego, that will place digital speed limit signs that can change the suggested speed limit based on traffic flow. The system will also use metering to limit the number of cars on the highway. The six-month pilot project will span northbound 99 from Elk Grove Blvd. to the Highway 50 interchange in Sacramento with the new signs posted at 10 separate locations. Look for the changes beginning November 1st. The "advisory speed limits" are recommendations and will not be enforced by the California Highway Patrol. (Good Day Sacramento)

Today in Roseville:
- Make your daily cup of joe count for something good today by stopping by The Human Bean, (Rocklin or Citrus Heights location). ALL proceeds from your order will go to help one of their original managers, a young mom, in her fight against breast cancer. 5:00am-7:00pm
- Today is the day to clear out your medicine cabinets and first aid kits for Placer County's Medicine Take Back Day tomorrow. The service is free and anonymous, accepting medication (prescription and non-prescription), veterinary meds, controlled substances and vaping devices. Proper disposal keeps harmful substances out of the hands of children and out of our waterways. The two Roseville locations are at Roseville High School and at the Maidu Community Center. Tomorrow 10:00am-2:00pm
- If you've been thinking of taking the family to one of the Maidu Museum campfire nights, do it! And buy your tickets now for the November 12th campfire before they sell out. I took my niece and nephews, ages 5-14, to last Friday's event and it was a hit with everyone. The storytellers were amazing and the smores at the end had everyone smiling - and sticky! Tickets are only $5 and kiddos under 2 are free. Nov. 12
Roseville Patch Notebook:
- The Timberwolves of Woodcreek High School have been celebrating all week in anticipation of Football Homecoming tonight. Mickey and Minnie were on hand, in a horse-drawn carriage no less, for the parade yesterday. This year's theme is "When you wish upon a star." How cute is that? (Instagram)
- Roseville High School's Tiger Band and Guard competed for the first time since 2019 at the Del Oro Band Spectacular last weekend. And they killed it! Congrats to the color guard, percussion, and drum major for their first place finish, and to the whole group for finishing 2nd overall! There's a link in the post so you can watch the field show. (Twitter)
- Congratulations to Thairo Estrada, who was voted Most Exciting Player of 2021 by his AAA teammates - a pretty great accomplishment for his first year with the Sacramento River Cats/San Francisco Giants organization. He's so exciting, in fact, that there is an entire Reddit thread devoted to his walk-up song. (Twitter) (Reddit)
