Roseville Reader Writes: Father's Day: "To Our Children's Children's Children"

Father's Day: Moody Blues, John Lodge, Mike Pinder, Ray Thomas, Pinder Brothers. (l-r) Matt, Michael Lee Pinder, John Lodge, Mike Pinder

The children of famous music stars sometimes have a stronger than usual desire to follow dad into the family business.

Think of Bobby Bare Jr., Jason Bonham, Jeff Buckley, Rosanne Cash, A.J. Croce, Jakob Dylan, Dhani Harrison, Jimmy Langford, Julian Lennon, Sean Lennon, James McCartney, Dez Money, Jesse Money, Julian Money, Daxx Nielsen, Miles Nielsen, Colin Peterik, Dan Pinder, Kenny Rogers Jr., Frank Sinatra Jr., Nancy Sinatra, Zack Starkey, Wolfgang Van Halen, Rufus Wainwright, Hank Williams Jr., & many others.

You can also add Matt & Michael Lee Pinder - brothers of the aforementioned Dan Pinder - who are all the sons of Moody Blues co-founder Mike Pinder.

The Moody Blues have been around since 1964 and not only does Moody member John Lodge have a new solo album, but so does a newer group called The Pinder Brothers - comprised of Matt & Michael Pinder. The Pinder Brothers new album is called “Melancholy Sea” - not to be confused with The Moody Blues song Melancholy Man written & sung by their dad, Mike. Melancholy Sea is a collection of 11 great songs with one great surprise: “Summer Moon” features their dad with former Moody Blues member Ray Thomas. The Pinder Brothers are also joined on Melancholy Sea by Scott Reams & Bruce Spencer, plus Stef Burns, Paul Revelli, & Ed Ulibarri.

In related news. the new John Lodge album “10,000 Light Years Ago” has 8 songs including one great surprise: “In My Mind” features special guests Mike Pinder & Ray Thomas. (John’s currently on tour with The Moody Blues.)

Earlier this year Dan Pinder won a Golden Reel award for “Best Sound and Music Editing: Feature Animation” as Supervising Music Editor for Big Hero 6.

Mike & wife Tara Pinder will agree that Father’s Day 2015 is not “To Our Children’s Children’s Children” - the title of a 1969 Moody Blues album - but they can say “To Our Children” and the sons can say ”To Our Dad: Happy Father’s Day!” from Dan, Matt & Michael Lee Pinder. (Matt lives in Roseville.)
