June is proving to be a lot hotter than what we are used to in California. Tomorrow is bringing more of the same with expected highs around 99 degrees, but at least we can cool off at night with lows in the mid-60s.
Humidity will be in the unpleasant 39-degree range with wind at about 5-10 mph. The extended forecast is for cooler temperatures this weekend so, again, hang in there!
Today’s Top 5 Stories You Need to Know About:
- Scam Alert: The City of Roseville Utilities Division has recently received reports of scammers calling Roseville residents pretending to be utility officials. Do not call back the number they provide – that is the scam. If in doubt, call the official office number at (916) 774-5300. (CoR)
- Hot, dry weather conditions, combined with wind and, in some areas of the Sierras, lightning have kicked off fire season early this year. The Hotchkiss fire, outside Georgetown, Ca., had CalFire jumping into action with ground and air forces to contain a 6-acre forest blaze in rugged terrain. The fire appeared to be contained as of 4:00pm yesterday. (CF)
- Texas based health chain Restore Hyper Wellness + Cryotherapy is expected to open this year in The Fountains, taking over the space formerly occupied by CorePower Yoga. Restore offers a wide array of services including IV Drip Hydration Therapy and Infrared Sauna Therapy. (SBJ)
- Roseville Joint Unified High School District will offer wellness services this summer from June 7 to July 15 at the Independence High School campus. Mental Health Associate Sam Halford will be available from 9:00am-2:00pm each day (except July 5) and will be supported by three interns. Services include individual therapy and skills building, group counseling and wellness check-ins. (RD)
- William Jessup University student and Colfax native Bailey Cossentine took first place in the marathon event at the NAIA Outdoor Track and Field National Championships last week. She defended her title from 2019 (no events in 2020 due to COVID) despite the 82 degree and 100 humidity that day in Gulf Shores, Alabama. Cossentine expects to complete her Master’s degree in kinesiology in August.

About me
My name is Kelly Mays Risse, and I have lived in Roseville just about all my life. I graduated from Roseville High School majored in Journalism at CSU Sacramento. If you recognize me, it may be from St. Clare Church, where I worked the past 10 years. Or maybe from the myriad activities my husband and I have been part of while raising our three boys here. I have watched Roseville grow from a cheerful little railroad town to a large and diverse city. I love where we live, from the hiking trails to the hip new restaurants, and the people who live here. I am excited to bring the highlights to you!
