Roseville Fire responded to approximately 110 fireworks-related incidents between June 28 and July 4 last year, Carman said. Of those, five were significant fires; none were fireworks related injuries, Carman said.
“Usually, the injuries are the least common type of call” around the Fourth of July, Carman said.

Fires, on the other hand, are more common. Large garbage cans stored over house eaves are common fire starters. Carman said the cans are highly flammable, especially when fireworks have not been extinguished properly. Extinguish fireworks by submerging them in a bucket filled with water for a few minutes, Carman said.
Roseville Fire has zero tolerance for illegal fireworks this year – anyone caught with illegal fireworks will receive a citation without warning, Carman said.
Tips for a safe Fourth:
- Have an adult light fireworks
- Whoever lights the fireworks should wear eye protection
- Give adequate clearance when lighting fireworks
- Only use fireworks outdoors away from homes, dry grass and trees
- To extinguish fireworks, submerge them in a bucket filled with water for a few minutes before placing them in the garbage can
