Here are the top five stories in Roseville today:
- Denio’s Farmers Market & Swap Meet and the Placer Food Bank have teamed up to help struggling families with PantryToGo, starting this Friday, January 7th. People experiencing food insecurity can come by the Denio's location at 1401 Church Street 8:00 am - 10:00 am for a free mobile food distribution. Registration is not required. “We’re so grateful for the partnership with Placer Food Bank and proud to be able to open Denio’s up for this important community service,” said Eric Denio, Facilities Manager of Denio's. “We love our city, and we want to help make a positive impact however we can.” (Deniosmarket Instagram)
- Placer County’s economy is starting of strong in the new year, at least in the employment sector, according to the latest data from the California Economic Development Department. The unemployment rate stands at a solid 3.5%. Only four other counties in the state topped Placer – all located in the Bay Area. Get more details on the metrics used to compile unemployment statistics in this article. (Roseville Today)
- The election season officially kicked off Monday in Placer County with the opening of the signature-in-lieu filing period for the June 7th primary election. Thinking of running for a Placer County elected office in 2022? Check out the County’s webpage for information on signature petitions, filing deadlines and more. And if all this new to you, the County Elections Office has a free candidate workshop scheduled for February 19th. (Placer County Government News Release)
- The Sacramento Area Council of Governments (SACOG) has spent the better part of the past two years studying our region’s parks and trails (there are close to 80!) to identify ways to make them more connected, accessible and equitable across communities. Working with cities, counties and planning partners across six counties, including Placer, and surveying residents throughout the area, the Sacramento Region Parks and Trails Strategic Development Plan has identified a Draft Regional Trail Network. The plan calls for leveraging 654 miles of existing trails and adding more than 1,200 miles of new trails that will connect residents to important destinations, improved accessibility to underserved neighborhoods and promote active, healthy lifestyles for all residents in the region. Learn more by clicking the link, and save the date for a webinar introducing the Draft Regional Trail Network on January 13th. (SACOG News Release)
