TGIF, people of Roseville!

I hope everyone had a restful, introspective and thankful Veterans Day yesterday. Thank you, veterans and active service people, for the sacrifices you make for the security of our nation. (Shameless shout out here to my son, Will, currently serving in Italy with the U.S. Air Force.)

Now let's check out what's happening in the 'Ville today!

First, today's weather:

I love that the forecast literally reads "abundant sunshine!" The expected high is 70 degrees with an overnight low of 48. Winds should be light and variable at about 3-4 mph and humidity will remain high at around 76%-93%.

Here are the top stories today in Roseville:

  1. There's a new venue for seeing your favorite stars on the big screen with the opening of the Cinemark at Galleria Mall yesterday. It looks like all the cool, modern amenities are present along with something called a D-Box seat option that incorporates movie action with motion control in the seat (just don't spill my popcorn). There is also a Snacks In a Tap feature that allows you to order concessions from the comfort of your seat. Yes, please! (Roseville Today)
  2. So many of us like to take our canine companions out walking and hiking with us, especially when we hit one of the beautiful natural trails in the area. One thing to worry about is how our pooch will react to a rattlesnake, should we encounter one. I'm pretty sure my Reggie would immediately try to befriend said rattler - yikes! I'm definitely looking into this snake avoidance clinic on November 20th offered by All Stage Canine Development in Citrus Heights. Check out the video segment here starring a real rattlesnake named Diablo. (Good Day Sacramento and Facebook)
  3. When it comes to retiring from military service, Roseville ranks high as a great city for vets to settle back into civilian life. Online financial advising firm Smartasset.com ranked Roseville eighth out of 200 of the largest U.S. cities, looking at categories like military retirement friendliness, resources for vets and economic environment. Something we can be proud of this Veterans Day week. (Gold Country Media)
  4. Gary-on-the-Go from FOX 40 News is one busy guy! He stopped by True REST Float Spa in Roseville yesterday to take a float and to tell veterans and active duty military personnel about a great deal at the spa. True REST shows its appreciation of our local vets not just once a year, but on the 11th of every month with free float appointments. The therapeutic floats help with chronic pain, stress and symptoms of post traumatic stress disorder. (FOX 40 and True REST website)

  • Our Roseville Historical Society got into the spirit of things yesterday with super-cool retro war posters hanging in the windows of the Carnegie Museum. The posters were a great tribute to our local veterans. You can purchase your own copies in the museum gift shop on your next visit. (Instagram)
  • If you have littles, add to the magic of their Christmas Eve this year with a box of special crafts, treats, games and a personalized "nice list" letter from Santa. The elves at our Roseville Parks Department offer the boxes for $49 for Roseville residents and $59 for non-residents. I have a feeling these will go fast once the word is out, so jump on this offer quickly! (Facebook)
  • Our Roseville Police (RPD) posted a photo of the department's Placer County Law Enforcement Agencies award winners for this year. The award recognizes officers, deputies, investigators and volunteers from several Placer County agencies who have gone above and beyond in their service to our communities. Follow the RPD Facebook page to hear more in the coming days about how these recipients were chosen. (Facebook)
  • The much anticipated SMUD Museum of Science and Curiosity opens Saturday in Sacramento. And, from the pictures on the website, it looks amazing! Be aware that you will need reservations ahead of time to visit so you don't miss out. Tickets are $12-$15 online. (Instagram)
  • The official River Cats 2022 season schedule has arrived! Start planning your nights in the bleachers now. Claws up! (Twitter)
