Here are the top stories today in Roseville:
- Rocklin Fire responded to a call about an apartment on fire in the 5700 block of Springview Dr. early Sunday morning. They were quickly able to extinguish the fire when they arrived. Working with Rocklin Police, they determined there was evidence that the fire was intentionally set. "The investigation led officials to 34-year-old Mathew Shultz of Rocklin," who was arrested and booked into the Placer County Jail. (KTXL FOX 40 Sacramento)
- A couple of hundred people gathered Sunday night at Galleria Boulevard and Antelope Creek Drive in Roseville. They were there to protest the death of 22-year-old Iranian Mahsa Amini, who died on September 16 in Iran while in the custody of the "morality police." "We are livid, and we are so ready for this to be over, for there to be freedom," protester Jzeela Gheisar said. "If all of the world, combined, uses their voices like how we all came out today, we're so hopeful that it can cause some change," Gheisar said. (KCRA Sacramento)
- Ghosts of Placer County is opening this week at Placer Repertory Theater. "This is Placer County's first opportunity to support their home-grown professional regional theater as it produces its first multi-week mainstage production," said Kevin Foster, Placer Rep Outreach Director. The story, written by T.S. Forsyth, portrays ghost and history stories from the Roseville and Placer County region. Tickets for the production, which runs from September 30 through October 8, are now available on Eventbrite.com. (Broadway World)
- This El Dorado Hills third grader is fearless! He's the youngest Californian ever to skydive! He had to go to Colorado to do it, because it's the only place his father was aware of that would allow minors to skydive. He went with an instructor who filmed the experience. "I was expecting it to be scarier," said Max Hook, who spoke to ABC10 alongside his father, Chris Hook. Max described freefall as feeling like "being sucked up by a tornado," and the descent as being like a "real-life simulation of Google Earth." Does he recommend the experience for others? You betcha! You can drop them off at the Maidu Community Center, Roseville High School or Sun City – Roseville. Please do not bring sharps, medical waste or illicit substances. (roseville.ca.us)
