Here are the top five stories today in Roseville:

  1. Green Acres Nursery & Supply and Make-A-Wish Northeastern & Central California and Northern Nevada are partnering to raise funds to grant 20 wishes in 20 days for children with critical illnesses in the greater Sacramento area. If you're heading out to Green Acres to get those last minute tomato plants you can donate at the register when you check out. Already got your garden in? No worries. You can also donate online through June 20. (Roseville Today)
  2. On Tuesday, an anonymous tip was made through Granite Bay High School's online reporting system saying a student of the school had allegedly threatened a school shooting. The tip was referred to the Placer County Sheriff's office and they arrested the student at their home. Greg Sloan, the interim principal for Granite Bay High School, said deputies and school officials believe the school, campus and students are safe and that there is no ongoing threat. School officials encourage anyone with more information about the incident to contact the Placer County Sheriff's Office at 30-889-7800 or Granite Bay High School at 916-786-8676.(ABC10.com KXTV)
  3. Tessa Schaffer earned her Eagle Scout designation when she was just 13 years old. She is one of the first girls in the area to earn this distinction. She joined scouting when she was 11 and has raced up the ranks, earning more badges than needed for Eagle Scout and going on to earn her Order of the Arrow. She's helped countless residents, lots of scouts who are coming up the ranks behind her and, notably 160 cats at Fat Kitty City cat sanctuary in El Dorado Hills, where her Eagle Scout project helped keep them healthy, warm and dry.(KTXL FOX 40 Sacramento)
  4. Rocklin City Council began 2022-2023 fiscal hearings on May 26 as staff presented a $102 million proposed budget. "After deliberations, Rocklin City Council is scheduled to adopt the final budget at the regular June 28 council meeting," officials said. "The city's strongest assets are its residents and citizen input and participation set Rocklin apart. We are proud of Rocklin's rich heritage and excited about its future. Thanks to residents, businesses and community leaders working together, we can ensure a bright future," the staff report concluded. See where all that money is coming from, and where it is proposed to go in this Gold Country Media article. (Gold Country Media)
  5. Oh, man, I LOVE consignment clothing stores! You can power shop without breaking the bank. Teens and young adults have a treat in store as Roseville opens Platos Closet, a gently used clothing franchise with more than 480 locations. I'm jealous as they can save a ton of money (up to 70%) on super fun clothes for the summer, or sell their gently used clothes to earn money to grab some food truck grub at one of the Vernon Street events. Plato’s Closet opened May 12 at 9050 Fairway Drive, Suite 145. (Roseville Press Tribune)

Are you a Roseville resident looking for an investment alternative to the stock market?

Bloomberg recently asked experts where they’d invest $100,000 right now, and many of them had the same answer: fine art.

Thinking you can’t afford a Picasso? Well in 2012, Congress passed the JOBS Act, which allowed for the securitization of artwork. A company called Masterworks.io built the largest platform for buying and selling art securities. In the past, you could only buy shares of companies like Apple, but with this investing app, you can unlock this powerful investment.

Meaning, you can invest in shares of million-dollar artwork. And in uncertain times, it turns out, fine art may be a wise investment. Here’s why:

  • Low correlation to stocks according to Citi
  • Contemporary art historically returns 23.2% when inflation is >3%
  • Contemporary art prices outpaced the S&P 500 by 164% (1995-2021)

To learn more, visit Masterworks.io, where Roseville Daily readers can skip the waitlist.
