Here are the top five stories in Roseville today:
- Folsom Lake is 88% full. That's 110% of average for this time of year. So, why is California talking about a drought? Because Folsom Lake is an outlier. It happened to be right in the path of the two atmospheric rivers that came through late last year. Extreme Northern California was not as lucky, so Oroville and Shasta, our biggest reservoirs, are well below average for the year. This News 10 link has an EXCELLENT tutorial about our weather, the anomalies in Folsom and even why the fires up north last year are impacting the water availability this year. (ABC10.com KXTV)
- A young cancer patient at Women's and Children's Center at Kaiser in Roseville wanted to head out to Paris. Don't we all? But she did something about it. She drew up plans to make the playroom at the hospital into a stroll in gay Paris! And, guess what? The carpenters and nurses at the center loved the idea and made it a reality. According to Dr. Kent Jolly, a pediatric oncologist there, the room is not only a wonderful distraction for patients experiencing some difficult treatments, but it is a way for the patients to have conversations with their doctors and families about their experience in a positive way. All good for patient recovery. (Good Day Sacramento)
- The Granite Bay Grizzlies rugby team has won the National Championship with a 29-9 win against Belmont Shore! The team has been on fire all season, with their only loss coming against De La Salle in the NorCal finals. Congrats to the Grizzlies! (Roseville Press Tribune)
- The Placer County Board of Supervisors voted Tuesday to authorize the award of two contracts totaling $56 million for the construction of the Mental Health Facility and the Vocational Training Facility at the Bill Santucci Justice Center in Roseville. The facilities will add an additional 165 beds to the existing jail. Placer County Sheriff Devon Bell told the board that he believes the facilities will reduce recidivism and make Placer a safer community. (Roseville Today)
- The Placer County Board of Supervisors has approved a motion to streamline the permitting process for electrical vehicle charging stations for both commercial and residential uses. “Keeping pace with technological demands and how those translate to the built environment are everyday considerations of the Building Service team,” said Placer County Building Chief Official Timothy Wegner. “With this new program to expedite the installation of charging stations, we’re happy to facilitate the ever-growing demand for these systems.” (Roseville Today)
