Make sure you have someplace cool to be for the next few days while things start heating up in the ‘Ville. We can expect a high of about 103 today, with a low of 68 tonight. At least the humidity will be down to 19% today, making things a little less, well, sticky.

The Excessive Heat Warning starts tomorrow with highs expected to be over 110 for the next two days.

Today’s Top 5 Stories You Need to Know About:

  • Southwest Airlines airplanes were grounded Monday evening and again yesterday, reportedly due to widespread computer system glitches. The flights had resumed yesterday morning, only to be halted again later in the day. Southwest says it is working on the problem. (SacBee)
  • The Annual Sacramento Optimist Games rosters for this year are up! The Optimist Games are a venue for senior high school athletes to showcase their prowess and represent their schools with honor. While the baseball and softball games are cancelled this year due to the pandemic, the boys volleyball game will take place on June 18 at Jesuit High School (GCM & OS)
  • One person has died and another was injured after a single-engine Cirrus SR20 crashed yesterday shortly after takeoff from the Tahoe Truckee Airport. The Federal Aviation Administration (FAA) reported that the emergency parachute had deployed, but it is speculated that the aircraft was too close to the ground for it to deploy effectively. Truckee fire crews were on scene to mitigate any threat of fire. (Fox40)
  • “California Defies doom With No. 1 U.S. Economy” is the title of an opinion piece published in Bloomberg on Monday. This is good news for a pandemic weary, apprehensive populace on the verge of reopening its economy. While it is an opinion column, the piece backs up its assertion with hard data from sources like the Standard & Poor 500 Index, the Russell 3000 Index, the Bloomberg Barclays U.S. Corporate Bond Index and Bloomberg New Energy Finance. • The State Personnel Board, which oversees California’s government workers, has updated its policy on marijuana urine tests after a Caltrans worker contested the department’s use of a urine test to dismiss him from employment. The Board recognized that urine tests for marijuana are an unreliable metric to test workers’ intoxication at work, and that they only accurately indicate if the person has used marijuana in the past. The policy change does not apply to police or other professions where employees are prohibited from using drugs.(SacBee)

About me

My name is Kelly Mays Risse, and I have lived in Roseville just about all my life. I graduated from Roseville High School majored in Journalism at CSU Sacramento. If you recognize me, it may be from St. Clare Church, where I worked the past 10 years. Or maybe from the myriad activities my husband and I have been part of while raising our three boys here. I have watched Roseville grow from a cheerful little railroad town to a large and diverse city. I love where we live, from the hiking trails to the hip new restaurants, and the people who live here. I am excited to bring the highlights to you!
