- Poor air quality caused by smoke from several Northern California wildfires has prompted the Placer County Interim Health Officer and the Placer County Air Pollution Control District to issue a joint air quality advisory through Sunday, July 25. Exposure to the smoky air can potentially cause "negative health impacts," especially to particularly sensitive groups. Placer County residents are urged to limit time outdoors, run AC on a re-circulation setting and limit driving this weekend. (Roseville Today)
- William Jessup University broke ground on a new NFL-quality turf athletic field complex on Thursday that will be used by the school's soccer team, track and field teams, and by other local athletic clubs and teams. The $2.5 million project is the culmination of 2 and a half years of planning and fundraising by the university, local youth soccer "The Blues FC" and other donors. The fields are expected to be completed by September. (Gold Country Media)
- According to city records, Gucci is planning to open a store at the Roseville Galleria. The store will fill three suites (1065, 1075, 1067) with a selection of its luxury items that include jewelry, handbags and shoes at other locations. An exact opening date is not known at this time. - The California State Parks Department is reminding visitors to Folsom Lake State Recreation Area not to remove, disturb or relocate any of the historic Mormon Island artifacts that have been exposed by lake's low water levels. Not only do these actions spoil the experience for later visitors, but violators could be fined up to $250,000 under state and federal laws that protect the ruins and objects in the lakebed. - The Folsom Fire Department is asking the City of Folsom to declare a local emergency in light of the unprecedented number of fire incidents this year. The beautiful open spaces that make Folsom a desirable place to live have become a danger to nearby homes and businesses as the dry drought conditions continue.
