We should be a little cooler today with an expected high of 94 degrees. And cooler yet tonight at around 61. Winds will be in the 10-15 mph range and humidity should be around 43%. The long range forecast predicts we will stay in the mid-90s temperature range through the holiday weekend.
Today’s Top 5 Stories You Need to Know About:
1. A man has been arrested and been identified as a suspect in a case of vandalism that shocked Roseville’s special needs community back in May. Only one week after a much- anticipated grand opening, Gigi’s Playhouse, a development and resource center for people with Down syndrome, was vandalized with hateful graffiti and over $400 in property damage. Roseville Police had identified the suspect a few weeks ago and obtained an arrest warrant when he was arrested by Citrus Heights Police on an unrelated drug charge. The suspect remains in custody at the Sacramento County Jail as of this report. (SacBee)
2. A major cow-tastrophe had Cal Fire, Placer County Sheriffs, Lincoln Fire, Newcastle Fire, Placer County Animal Control, American Medical Response, Hazardous Materials crews and the California Highway Patrol responding to an overturned cattle truck on Gold Hill Rd. in Newcastle yesterday morning. Responder crews, with help from the truck driver, immediately set about cutting open the trailer to release the cows into an adjacent field. The driver and all 71 cattle escaped the incident without harm. (CalFireNEU)
3. College students, the City of Roseville has a great internship opportunity for you! Help facilitate a Safe Routes to School program and engage in other learning opportunities in this paid part-time position in the city’s Transportation Division. The deadline to apply is July 12. (CoR)
4. Congratulations to Cole Moore of Granite Bay who won both 30-lap events at the BMR Drivers Academy at Kern County Raceway Park in Bakersfield last Friday. The academy is a NASCAR development program. Drivers will continue the competition July 9-10 in Kern County and July 23-24 at All American Speedway in Roseville. (GCM)
5. A 2021 state budget, flush with money from a 27% increase in state revenues, was passed by lawmakers on Monday. Some details of the $262.6 billion budget are still in negotiations, but the early signs point to an agreement between the legislature and Gov. Gavin Newsom on the larger framework of the spending plan. (KCRA)

About me
My name is Kelly Mays Risse, and I have lived in Roseville just about all my life. I graduated from Roseville High School majored in Journalism at CSU Sacramento. If you recognize me, it may be from St. Clare Church, where I have worked for the past 10 years. Or maybe from the myriad activities my husband and I have been part of while raising our three boys here. I have watched Roseville grow from a cheerful little railroad town to a large and diverse city. I love where we live, from the hiking trails to the hip new restaurants, and the people who live here. I am excited to bring the highlights to you!
