The quickest way to get caught up on the most important things happening today in Roseville.

(Patch Media)

Good morning, Roseville!

I hope everyone enjoyed the last week as we kicked off this holiday season. My family was especially excited this year as our U.S. Airman son was able to come home from his station in Italy (hence my little break last week). We've got a lot to catch up on since last week, so ...

Let's get to it!

First, today's weather:

You'd hardly know we are creeping into December with weather like this! We can expect more sunny skies and an expected high of 67 degrees today. The overnight low will shiver your timbers at 46 degrees. Winds should be light at around 6 mph and humidity will be about 73% during the day.

Here are the top stories in Roseville today:

  1. At deadline yesterday, I was still trying to find out more information on a vehicle accident on Atlantic Street, between Vernon and Yosemite Streets. The accident was significant enough to close the major Roseville artery for several hours while police investigated the scene. One person was seriously injured in the rollover crash, according to officers. (CBS Sacramento)
  2. Be sure to check out the “Home for the Holidays” displays and do the family-friendly scavenger hunt at the Roseville Utility Exploration Center this month. You can learn how to “green up” your holidays and save money on your utility bills while having fun! All families who do the scavenger hunt will receive a gift while supplies last. The display runs through December 23rd. (City of Roseville)
  3. The recently opened Rose Cafe & Bagel in West Roseville was featured in yesterday's segment of Good Day Sacramento. I have to admit I have been meaning to get over to check it out. But after hearing about the fresh daily bagels (from their own sourdough starter!) and signature drinks like Eggnog Latte and Liquid Smores, I am definitely heading over there soon! (Good Day Sacramento)
  4. Top California health agencies are closely monitoring the migration of the new so-called "omicron" variant of COVID-19 coming out of South Africa. The United States has already implemented travel restrictions to eight southern African countries, and anyone who has recently travelled in that region is urged to get tested for the virus. A "private-public partnership" in California called COVIDNet is currently working on deciphering the genetic properties of omicron while is has not yet reached the state. (Capital Public Radio News)

Today in Roseville:

  • The rivalry comes to a head tonight with a match between the Sacramento Kings and the team their fans love to hate – the Los Angeles Lakers. There are basically three ways to watch the game: you have or can get tickets to the game (lucky you!), you can hit your local bar or restaurant with large TVs or you can watch from home on CBS or Fubo. Go Kings! 7:00 pm - 10:00 pm
  • Superstudio, the new exhibition at Blue Line Arts Gallery featuring works by Crocker Kingsley Award winning artist Peter Combe, utilizes a range of media, styles and techniques to create Holographic and 3D effects that pull viewers in as they experience the art. The exhibition runs through January, 8th, 2022. Be sure to attend the Family-friendly First Saturday drop-in event with make-and-take art inspired by the Combe on December 4th from 11:00 am to 2:00 pm, and the 3rd Saturday Reception and Artist Lecture on December 18th from 4:00 pm to 8:00 pm. Through Jan. 8, 2022
  • All you cool cats can chill to some great jazz music by the Sierra College Music Department tonight in Dietrich Theatre on the campus in Rocklin. This “Jazz Night” will feature instrumental and vocal ensembles performing an eclectic set list from greats like Duke Ellington, Van Morrison and Thad Jones. Tickets are $8-$10 at the door. Face masks are required on the campus. 7:30 pm - 9:30 pm
  • Put a team together and sign up now to enjoy some friendly competition while you get your pre-Christmas workout in. The 12 WODs of Christmas at CrossFit Roseville is a fun community event for all fitness levels. CrossFit will also collect needed items for local homeless persons (see list) served by The Gathering Inn. Dec. 4
  • Reserve your space now for the Santa Bar Crawl in Old Roseville on December 11th. Why should the little boys and girls have all the Christmas fun? With six participating bars within walking distance, and easy availability to app-supported rides, you’re sure to stay on Santa’s “nice” list at this crawl. Dec. 11, 3:00 pm - 7:00 pm

From my notebook:

  • Our Roseville Parks, Recreation & Events Department wants to make sure EVERYONE gets to join in the Christmas Tree Lighting in Downtown Roseville this Thursday, even if your delicate constitution keeps you at home out of the cold. The event will be live-streamed on their Facebook page! For the hardier souls, bundle up and head downtown early to avoid traffic delays. It's kind of a big deal, you know. (Facebook)
  • Roseville Public Works crews will be burning the midnight oil once again this week as they continue the expansion of Washington Boulevard between Junction Boulevard and Diamond Oaks Road. Expect delays and noise between 8:00 pm and 5:00 am through Thursday. (Twitter)
  • Our Roseville Police who were working hard on Thanksgiving to keep us all safe got a special "thank you" from Sacramento's Roxie Deli & Barbeque - a Thanksgiving feast! Apparently the deli has been providing sumptuous meals for the RPD for years. (Facebook)
  • I realize this is the third pancake Breakfast The Roseville Daily is featuring for the month of December, but can anyone ever really have too many free pancakes? The Roseville Eagles Aerie 1582 is cooking up the grub so you don't have to. Save the date for December 12th between 9:00 am and noon and get over to 210 Lincoln Street! (Instagram)
  • The Placer Community Foundation and Sleeves Up Placer want to remind you that you can visit one of several free COVID-19 clinics around the county to get your shot and protect yourself and those you love this holiday season. You could event get a $50 Visa gift card to help with your seasonal shopping! (Instagram)
