- The Granite Bay High School Site Council grappled with the issue of whether a list of controversial materials should be taught in the classroom and ultimately came to the unanimous conclusion that all of the materials should be available for teachers to use. They decided that teachers are in the best position to determine whether these materials are appropriate for their students. There's a list of the materials in question in this article, and I took a look. The one that confounds me? Atomic Habits by James Clear. What's controversial about tricks to remember to floss your teeth every day? (KTXL FOX 40 Sacramento)
- The Grounds in Roseville is hosting the International Railfair again this year, after a two-year COVID hiatus! This is a huge model railroad exhibition that is bound to take you back to your childhood. Kids can try their hand at being the "conductor" and running a model train for themselves. It's fun for the whole family, so head over to The Grounds on October 22 and 23. All aboard! (Roseville Press Tribune)
- Believe it or not, there are 16 bridges in Roseville in need of maintenance. The City of Roseville has a plan and a map to get them all done by early 2023. The good news is that you'll have safe, smooth bridges to drive over when they are done. The bad news is that it'll be quite an inconvenience with lane closures while they're doing it. The city has posted the map and other details at this link, but keep in mind that they are subject to change, so check back often. (roseville.ca.us)
- Here's an awesome program, and we're lucky to live in Placer County to take advantage of it: The county is implementing a fraud prevention program for unauthorized transfers of real property. When any change is recorded, the property owner is automatically notified. Right now, you have to check with the Recorder's office to see if anything has changed, which gives the fraudsters the advantage of time. This program gives you the upper hand. (roseville.ca.us)
- October is already half over, but there are still plenty of awesome events, adventures and happenings around Roseville and surrounding areas to take advantage of this month. Style Magazine has rounded up some of the best. Personally, I'm looking forward to the World Food Day Chef Showdown in Orangevale tomorrow! What grabs you? (Style Magazine)
