Happy Wednesday, Roseville! Let's get you all caught up on what's happening locally so you can start today off on an informed note.

Here are the top stories in Roseville today: Today may be our last double digit temperature day this week with an expected high of 98 degrees. We'll cool down tonight to about 62. Humidity is around 38% during the day, and we will have breezes in the 5-10 mph range.

The long term forecast is predicting another extreme heatwave going into the weekend, so get your outdoor chores done today.

  1. Rocklin assemblyman Kevin Kiley-R has officially entered the California gubernatorial recall election race. Kiley said he made his decision after being asked to throw his hat in ring by Orrin Heatlie, the lead proponent of the Newsom recall effort. There will be a kickoff rally for the campaign on Saturday at 10:00am on the west steps of the State Capitol. The election is Tuesday, Sept. 14. (ABC10)
  2. Several of our local high school athletes made the Sacramento Bee's All-Metro Girls' and Boys' Basketball Rosters this year. Congratulations to Sophia Covello, Rilee Macomber, Eden Perry and Nick Stultz of Woodcreek High; Jack Milne, Yaqub Mir and Julia Riley of Granite Bay High; and Kevin Haupt of Oakmont High! (SacBee)
  3. Trademark Pizza in Roseville has closed its doors "until further notice." According to the Sacramento business Journal, the space occupied by the restaurant has been put up for lease. (SBJ)
  4. Girls' basketball players from 65 different high schools are competing in West Coast Clash Tournament in Roseville today and tomorrow. The tournament, taking place at the new Roebbelen Center, is a major recruitment opportunity for the athletes with college scouts from all over the country in attendance. Tickets are $20 at the door.   5. An Estimated 350,000 Californians may qualify for an extra $100 a week in unemployment payments – and get them retroactively from December 27. The Mixed Earner Unemployment Compensation program targets workers who are self-employed but also work salaried jobs part-time. An individual can get up to 36 weeks of the extra $100 in one lump sum from the Employment Development Department (EDD). The EDD will send email "invitations" to apply for those who are eligible.
