Kindergarten Readiness Skills
Here are some kindergarten readiness skills that will be a central focus as children enter kindergarten.
Many of our students at Growing Brilliant are getting ready to head off to kindergarten next year! Parents are always asking our teachers about Kindergarten Standards and which skills are most important.
Below are some kindergarten readiness skills that will be a central focus as children enter kindergarten:
- Identifies front, back, title, and author of a book
- Orally tells you what sound is heard at the beginning and ending of words
- Blends sounds aloud to make words
- Sorts and classifies objects by position, shape, size, color, number of corners, etc.
- Can count to 100 by 1s and 10s
- Identifies numerals 0-10
- Holds pencil and scissors correctly
- Uses self-control to follow school rules
These are great skills to work on at home. However, we also offer drop off classes at Growing Brilliant that help prepare children for success in elementary school. Now is a great time to check out our Ready Readers, Math Masters, or Kindergarten Readiness classes! We even offer free trial classes to help you find the right program for your child!
