Here are the top stories in Roseville today:
- Though generally a cheerful time of year with all holiday events, winter can also be a time that many people battle seasonal depression and anxiety. Sometimes known as The Holiday Blues, this condition can have many different causes. Less sunlight, the daylight savings time change, financial pressures and holiday overscheduling are just a few things that can get us down in "the most wonderful time of the year." Our friends at Roseville Today got some information for us on the signs we should be aware of and remedies we can use to combat these blues from Peter Yellowlees, Chief Wellness Officer and a professor in the Department of Psychiatry and Behavioral Sciences at UC Davis Health. (Roseville Today)
- Starting Monday, November 22nd, our Roseville Public Libraries are asking you to put down your book and pick up a paintbrush. The Mini Art Contest will prompt readers/artists of all ages to create a mini masterpiece inspired by a specific book, book characters or just reading in general. You can pick up free paint, brushes and canvases at any Roseville library between 10:00 am and 5:30 on while supplies last. Can’t make it on Monday? You can still participate by providing your own materials (canvas must be 4-inch by 4-inch). Your art must be turned in to the library by December 1st for you to be eligible for a chance to win a gift card for The Fountains. (What’s Happening in Roseville)
- It's been a long time since Sunrise Mall in Citrus Heights was a thriving destination shopping location. Some of us long-time area residents may remember when it was THE place to be on the weekends. A recent plan approved by the Citrus Heights City Council may restore the nearly 100-acre property to a bustling hive of economic activity once again. The new design would triple current development on the parcel and include hotel rooms, residences, retail and community gathering spaces. (citrusheightssentinel.com)
- Staving off what might have turned into a major headache in healthcare delivery to thousands of Californians, Kaiser Permanente reached tentative agreements with 22 labor unions on Saturday, and with the Guild for Professional Pharmacists yesterday. Monday was to start what would have been one of the largest strikes in our state’s history. Wages and staffing shortages were the two main issues of contention in the negotiations for the new four-year contract that affects nearly 50,000 health care employees. (Patch.com)
- Our state's top fire official, Thom Porter, Director of Cal Fire, is hanging up his helmet and hose to retire effective December 10th. After seeing us through the last three grueling fire seasons in California, you can't argue the man hasn't earned it. Porter, originally from San Diego, started with Cal Fire in 1999. He will return to his hometown "to focus on family, aging parents, and self," he said as part of his announcement. (FOX 40)
