Who ever thought we’d be thinking, “Thank God it’s only 94 degrees!” Well, here we are thanking our lucky stars to be out of the 100s. So yes, today’s high is expected to be about 94 with a lovely low tonight of 60. Humidity is back up a bit at 33% and we should have a slight breeze in the 10-15 mph range.
Today’s Top 5 Stories You Need to Know About:
- Roseville native son, Justin Barker, released his memoir yesterday called Bear Boy at a virtual release from a New York City bookstore. The book tells the story when, in the mid-90s, 13-year-old Justin made it his mission to move Roseville’s beloved Royer Park Zoo bears, Brutus and Ursula, to a more suitable location than the cramped, often flooded Royer enclosure. He was joined at the book release by a special guest – animal rights icon Jane Goodall. (KCRA)
- The Washington Blvd.-Andora Bridge Widening Project begins phase I today. We can expect intermittent shoulder, lane and multi-use path closures in the corridor on Washington Blvd. between Pleasant Grove Blvd. and All American Blvd. for most of this week. Electronic signs are posted on site with updated times and conditions. (CoR)
- Californians can now access their COVID vaccination record digitally with a new tool from the California Department of Public Health. Easier than trying to keep track of a physical card, the website at myvaccinerecord.cdph.ca.gov can be used to gain access to states, countries, mega-events or businesses that may require individuals to be vaccinated. (CADPH)
- Placer County’s PROTECT elder abuse task force wants you to know about the many resources they offer to protect our seniors, especially as we recognize June as Elder Abuse Awareness Month. The free resources include food delivery, legal services, housing assistance and more. Also this year, Placer County seniors are invited to “attend” a virtual convention - a series of informational videos meant to replicate the experience of an in-person convention. (RT and PC)
- With temperatures in the triple digits this summer, the cool, clear waters of our beautiful local rivers sure look inviting. Our Placer County Sheriffs want to remind everyone that the water levels can change rapidly with releases from area dams for the hydroelectric plants. There have been several rescue operations already this year of people stranded mid-river because of sudden river changes. Be extremely cautious and wear life jackets when in the rivers. (PCSO)

About me
My name is Kelly Mays Risse, and I have lived in Roseville just about all my life. I graduated from Roseville High School majored in Journalism at CSU Sacramento. If you recognize me, it may be from St. Clare Church, where I worked the past 10 years. Or maybe from the myriad activities my husband and I have been part of while raising our three boys here. I have watched Roseville grow from a cheerful little railroad town to a large and diverse city. I love where we live, from the hiking trails to the hip new restaurants, and the people who live here. I am excited to bring the highlights to you!
