- The first day of school is just around the corner for our Roseville students, and the kids aren't the only ones who need to dust off their brains to get ready for the new academic year. Drivers can always benefit from a refresher course on the traffic laws and precautions that are specific to the in-session months. Take a moment to review, and then pat yourself on the back for doing your part for keeping our kiddos safe out there this year. (Roseville Today)
- A movie by a local filmmaker, shot entirely in Auburn, is now available to stream on Amazon Prime. Tom Maduell filmed "A One-Sided Affair" two years ago, with most of the film's scenes taking place at a historic home on Almond Street in Auburn's downtown area. Big name actors and local talent both were involved in the tightly budgeted $50,000 project. The plot is described as a send-up of several aspects of society and centers around a family dealing with the fallout of a deceased family member's unusual will. (Gold Country Media)
- With over 60,000 acres incinerated, and at only 15% contained as of Tuesday morning, the Dixie Fire in Butte County has firefighters calling in the big guns - Cal Fire's fleet of fire fighting airplanes and helicopters. The tankers, carrying bright red fire retardant, are based at McClellan Park in Sacramento County. (KCRA Sacramento)
- A local service organization is looking for a few good teens who want to make a difference in their community. The Greater Placer Assisteens (don't you love that name?), a branch of the Assistance League of Greater Placer, are a group of 7th-12th grade young people who take a unique leadership role in tailoring their service projects to the needs specific to Placer County. The group is based in both Auburn and Roseville, with many of it's meetings held on Zoom. Fill out the Interest Form on its website to get more information - and an invitation to the upcoming meeting in August. (Press Release)
