Local Hero Marine Mourned + More Energy Coming + Forest Closures
Here's a five-minute guide to everything worth knowing today in Roseville.

Good morning, Roseville!
Before I get you all caught up and ready to start your Tuesday, there is an important correction you need to know about:
The Gubernatorial Recall Election is on Tuesday, September 14th, NOT September 4th. My apologies for the typo in Saturday's weekend edition. It's amazing how much one little "1" can really make a difference!

Now, let's get to it!
First, today's weather:

Temperatures are cooling down a bit this week with an expected high today of 91 degrees and a low of 56. Winds should be in the 5-10 mph range during the day, possibly whipping up a bit to 15 mph tonight. Humidity is expected to remain low at about 36% during the day.
It may look better, and definitely smell better, but don't be fooled. Our air quality remains in the unhealthy range and is forecast to stay there through the week. Keep the fun indoors for now, Roseville.
- The family of fallen Marine Sgt. Nicole (Herrera) Gee and the Roseville community mourn her death in the deadly attack on a Kabul airport on August 26th. The 2016 Oakmont graduate, 23, was helping to evacuate Afghan refugees when a suicide bomber struck, killing at total of 13 U.S. service members and injuring 18 others. Posts honoring the loss of Gee are showing up on social media and a Community Vigil is planned for tonight at 6:00pm (see below). (KTXL FOX 40, CapRadio and Roseville Today)
- Another local U.S. Marine Corps sergeant, Tyler Andrews of Folsom, was injured in the August 26 attack on the airport in Kabul, Afghanistan. He is receiving medical treatment at a facility in Germany, where his family has joined him. Andrews graduated in 2016 from Folsom High School and played soccer for Folsom Lake College before joining the military. Warfighter Overwatch has tied yellow ribbons around the community and helped raise funds for the family in support of the injured Marine. (KCRA Sacramento and CBS Sacramento)
- The California Department of Water Resources has asked the City of Roseville to host two emergency electric generators at Roseville Energy Park, the site of the city’s municipal utility. The generators would run on natural gas and help cover a shortfall of electric power caused from extreme heat and drought this summer. The city will incur no costs in the deal and will actually be paid $1 million by the State of California for use of the site this year - and another $3.5 million each for the next two years - as part of the contract. The City Council will discuss the proposal at its meeting tomorrow night. (FOX26 News and Subscription: Sacramento Business Journal)
- With the big holiday weekend on the horizon, a traditional time for family camping and hiking trips in Northern California, the U.S. Forest Service has made the difficult decision to close all 20 million acres of California’s national forests to public access through at least September 17th. The closure, which begins today at noon, comes as several wildfires rage out of control in the state. (Sacramento Bee)
- Faithful Roseville Daily readers knew all about the Grand Opening of Teaspoon this past weekend. Did you stop by to check it out? Our friends at Good Day Sacramento paid a visit and did a great little piece on the new boba tea restaurant. I have to admit, I did not know it has artisan flavored macaroons! (Good Day Sacramento)
