Warm and sunny with an expected high of 82 degrees; overnight low of 55. Winds light and variable throughout the day.

Here are the top five stories today in Roseville:

  1. Thanks to the Foothill Wine Festival Competition held in Folsom on March 5 and 6, we now have a comprehensive list of the best local wines to advise our next shopping trip. And on April 2, wine lovers will have a chance to sample the award winners at the Palladio Lifestyle Center, also in Folsom. It’s no secret that the Sacramento Valley region has got some great wineries turning out some quality libations. Check out the list of winners and get your tickets for the April 2 event. 2. Don’t be alarmed if you see smoke in the Colfax area. Cal Fire, the Placer County Fire Department and the City of Colfax have a prescribed burn planned today and Wednesday to reduce the threat of wildfire damage to the city’s infrastructure. You can get updates on the operation on Cal Fire’s social media. (Cal Fire Instagram)
  3. Harrowing situations have a way of bringing out the best in some people. An Auburn family, originally from Ukraine, is helping refugees fleeing the conflict caused by Russia's invasion of Ukraine. Paul and Rose Chorney have partnered with their church to help as many families as possible during the current crisis, including hosting a family of five in their home. (KCRA 3)
  4. In what is shaping up to be another year of drought, it might make more sense to chase wildflowers than waterfalls on your nature wanderings this spring. Those colorful, resilient mainstays of Northern California are starting to make their annual appearance. Read on for the best spots to be wowed by the coming bloom season. (Stockton Record)
  5. Your trip to enjoy what's left of Tahoe's winter beauty this week may include a delay of up to 30-45 minutes if you plan to take U.S. 50. Caltrans has created a detour around the section of 50 over Echo Summit that has seen some dramatic rockslide activity in the past few weeks. Crews will be performing rock scaling and slope stabilization work. It began Monday and work is expected to continue today (7:00 am-6:00 pm) and on Friday (7:00 am-noon). (Caltrans.gov)

If summer camp is on the agenda for your littles, be sure to check out Macaroni Kid’s Summer Camp Guide for a comprehensive list of tried and true programs, links to the recreation guides for regional cities and links to some helpful articles on choosing the right adventure for your camper.
