- A Roseville man got the surprise of his life when he received tickets to the Super Bowl, at what he thought was going to be a routine doctor's appointment. Trevor Zerilli was diagnosed with arteriovenous malformation, also known as AVM, while he was away at college in Utah. The 23-year-old had life-saving surgery at Ronald McDonald House in Arizona. On a return visit for what he thought was a routine checkup, Zerilli was, instead, surprised with the tickets, donated by DIRECTV in partnership with Ronald McDonald House. (ABC10.com KXTV)
- The Town of Loomis settled with the developers of the College Park project in Rocklin for $90,000. Loomis officials are concerned with traffic impacts of the development on Taylor Road. "Although located in Rocklin, kindergarten to 12th-grade students from College Park will travel north to attend Loomis schools, due to district boundaries." Traffic from the school commute is the concern. The funds will be used for mitigation of that traffic. (Gold Country Media)
- A Roseville Police officer patrolling Vernon Street on Wednesday heard the rev of an engine and the screech of tires coming from the parking structure. The officer responded and saw a vehicle traveling at high speeds, made a traffic stop on the car and got ready to impound the modified vehicle, when a search of the car also found an illegal firearm. Eighteen-year-old Iliya Demchuk, of Antelope, was arrested on charges "including reckless driving, carrying a concealed weapon in a vehicle, the manufacturing or sale of a large capacity magazine, and illegal possession of an assault weapon." (City of Roseville Police Department via Facebook)
- Two new artists' work will be on display at the Auburn City Hall Gallery, starting Wednesday, February 15. Artist Gary Symington is a figurative landscape painter and Barbara Ann Chestnutt is a ceramicist. "An opening reception will be held Friday, Feb. 17, from 5-7 p.m." (Gold Country Media)
