Today in Roseville:

  1. A fire broke out at Maidu neighborhood apartment complex early Monday morning, sending one injured person to the hospital. Engine No. 4 was first on the scene and called in additional reinforcements to the location. Our Roseville Fire crews were able to keep the blaze contained to the room of origin while occupants in adjoining units sheltered in place. The cause of the fire had not yet been determined as of deadline Tuesday and there is no information on the extent of the transported patient’s condition. (RPD Facebook and CBS 13)
  2. Health and Human Services Director Dr. Robert Oldham responded to the Placer Grand Jury’s December report that pointed out what it perceived as deficiencies in transparency and oversight in the Placer County Whole Person Care Pilot Program addressing homelessness in the county. The pilot program, that allows two local non-profit contractors to buy single-family homes for use as permanent supportive housing for formerly homeless individuals, has housed more than 183 people since June of 2021. Oldham’s response highlighted the fact that many “players” are involved in the Whole Person program, of which the Health and Human Services Department was just “one component.” He also indicated that the department was open to “deeper and more thoughtful analysis” to improve communication going forward. 3. Healthier eating habits are big on many New Year’s resolution lists, and our friends at Roseville Today want to help us out with a list of some great vegetarian and vegan restaurants around Roseville and Rocklin. The article also points out that many mainstream restaurants offer vegetarian options for those looking to go meatless with their diet. (Roseville Today)
  4. The Roseville Public Library is hitting the ground running in 2022 with several programs launching this month! The monthly Create! program offers free themed crafting sessions beginning with snowflakes January 10-15. Readers of all ages can explore some new genres and expand their knowledge with one of the new Beanstalk reading challenges. Some of old favorites are back too, like the two book clubs at the Maidu branch and a newly revamped Lego Club (site to be determined soon). Whoever says libraries are obsolete obviously hasn’t been to a Roseville Public Library lately! (Instagram and RPL webpage)

From my notebook:

  • ST Productions has released the 2022 lineup of shows for Rocklin’s Quarry Park Amphitheater. The season kicks off with Pablo Cruise on April 9th. Tickets for several shows are on sale now! (Twitter)
  • The Friends of the Roseville Public Library need volunteers for their Winter Book Sale on January 28th and 29th. It’s easy, it’s fun and you get first crack at those bargain books! Do you have a high schooler who needs volunteer hours? This is a great opportunity to knock some out. (FRPL website)
  • Our ever-helpful Roseville Police want you to be aware that "gift cards are a scammer’s favorite way to steal people’s money." Check this informative post to make sure you are in the know to avoid these scams. (Facebook)
  • Filling up at the pump hurts a little less lately thanks to our Sacramento Kings. You can unlock $25 in Golden 1 Center food and beverage concession credit by buying at least $40 in gas from participating ARCO stations through April 5th. So, “Fuel up and eat like a KING!” (Twitter)
  • It’s the time of year to keep an eye out for sea lions if you happen to be strolling our scenic American River shores. They come up to our inland region chasing the spawning Chinook salmon and steelhead trout. I don't blame them - Yum! Check out this happily feasting fellow in this video taken in the William B. Pond area of the river. (KCRA 3)
