- The Westpark neighborhood in Roseville is on alert as Roseville Police investigate a report of an adult male trying to lure three teenaged girls into his vehicle on Monday night. According to a social media post for the neighborhood, the alleged suspect is described as in his late 20s to early 30s, possibly driving an older Toyota extra-cab truck with faded red paint. The post went to say that he approached the 14-year-old girls in Westpark, offered them $40 each to get into the truck with him and said he wanted to “cover them in cash.” He then chased the teens, who ran to a neighbor’s house to call 911. The Roseville Police Investigations Unit urges anyone with information about the incident to contact them at (916) 746-1059. (ABC10.com KXTV and Subscription: The Sacramento Bee)
- Several spot fires broke out in the east area of Grass Valley yesterday afternoon, prompting immediate evacuation of one zone and a "shelter in place" order in another. Newscasters urged people to stay out of the area and off the roads that Grass Valley residents need leave the danger zone. This was an ongoing incident at press time yesterday. (KCRA 3)
- Placer County is facing a shortage of volunteers to serve in precincts throughout the county for the Sept. 14 California gubernatorial recall election. Especially needed are poll workers who are bilingual in Spanish, Tagalog, Punjabi or Korean. No experience necessary - there are upcoming training classes for election poll workers in Rocklin, Auburn and North Lake Tahoe. Poll workers can make from $100 to $160 (with a stipend of $25 for attending training). For more information on requirements or to apply, visit the Placer County elections website at placercountyelections.gov or call the Elections Office at 530-886-5650. (Gold Country Media)
- Although Placer County vaccination rates are above 50 percent, cases of the delta variant of COVID-19 continue to surge here, resulting in record numbers of COVID-related hospitalizations. Placer County hospitals are struggling to treat the influx of patients, who are estimated to occupy nearly a third of licensed beds in the facilities. Besides hospitalizations, cases of COVID-19 are rising among staff and students in local schools, a population that was fairly insulated from earlier variants. (Roseville Today)
- The Placer Community Foundation (PCF) is serious about getting Placer County residents vaccinated against COVID-19. In a new community outreach effort, Sleeves Up, Placer!, PCF is putting their money where your arm is, giving away $50 Visa cards to anyone visiting one their mobile sites for a shot. Supply is limited, so don't wait. Find a mobile clinic near you on their website. (Placer Community Foundation)
