Here are the top five stories today in Roseville:

  1. A memorial service for Elk Grove police officer Tyler Lenehan will take place today at the Bayside Church Adventure Campus in Roseville beginning at 10:00 am. Lenehan was killed in a collision with a wrong-way driver on Highway 99 in Sacramento on January 21st. There will be a procession (expected to be lengthy) from the church to the officer’s final resting place in Rescue. The procession route is detailed in this article. Expect delays if you are driving in the area around that time. A social media post from the Elk Grove Police Department encourages people wishing to pay their respects to stand on the sidewalk along the route. (FOX 40 and EGPD Twitter)
  2. Roseville Transit’s customer service office is now open at its new location at 316 Vernon Street, suite 150. Get your Roseville Transit passes and discount ID cards here and get answers to your questions about transit services, bikeways, trails and other transportation programs. You can also purchase Roseville Transit passes at the Roseville Sports Center and the Maidu Community Center. (What’s Happening in Roseville)
  3. Get involved in your community and serve on the City of Roseville Board of Appeals or the Senior Commission. Both advisory bodies are accepting applications from citizens 18 or older who reside within the Roseville city limits. The application process includes an interview. The application deadline is February 22nd.(City of Roseville Press Release)
  4. Our local Federal Bureau of Investigation (FBI) has a pretty cool opportunity for community leaders (business, religious or civic) who are interested in learning more about the FBI’s operations and how citizens can help in the mission to make our region safer. The FBI Citizens Academy is accepting applications for its in-depth, six-week dive into all things related to federal law enforcement. Applicants must be at least 21 years old, live within the division’s jurisdiction, consent to a background check that includes fingerprinting and make a commitment to attend all meetings (barring one excused absence). Applications must be received by February 11th. (ledger.news)
  5. Sacramento’s own Lisa Ling has a new docu-series on HBO Max that debuted last Thursday. On “Take Out with Lisa Ling,” the award-winning journalist tells the stories of Asian-American immigrants in the United States by visiting Asian restaurants around the country. Ling, returning to her Sacramento area roots, will feature Folsom’s Hop Sing Palace in one episode. “So many Asian-American stories began in a family-run restaurant,” Ling explains in the show’s trailer, which you can watch in this article. From our sponsor:

Last week, we told you about our new favorite non-alcoholic go-to — the refreshingly bitter drinks from our partners at Betera. They’re chef-created from natural botanicals, lightly effervescent and worthy of life beyond “Dry January.” We mentioned that their Ginger-Orange was excellent; we’ve since tried Elderflower-Lime and loved it as well — light and floral with the perfect amount of zing. We're converts.

Enough of you took Betera up on their 15% discount on first orders for Patch Daily readers that they’ve extended the offer for another week. Use PATCH15 at checkout. Highly recommended — try Betera here.

Today in Roseville:

  • If you’re planning to pick up your weekly produce, or just browse the goods, at the Placer Grown Farmer’s Market at The Fountains today, be advised that the severe wind today could shut it down. Check their Facebook updates before you head out there. 8:30 am-1:00 pm
  • Love animals? Sign up for the Placer SPCA Virtual Volunteer Orientation tonight! Our fur friends will thank you. Individual orientation costs $25; junior/adult teams cost $35. 5:30pm-7:00pm
  • Give your input or just find out more about the new long-field spots complex coming to West Roseville during a virtual public workshop tonight. This huge park project will be a boon to local sports leagues and future sports tourism for the city. Get some background information and RSVP for the meeting by clicking on the link. 6:30 pm
  • Our neighbors to the north in Auburn are taking a page from our neighbors to the south in Sacramento with a first ever Restaurant Week this week. Several Auburn restaurants are offering special discounts and prix fixe menus to entice newbies to try their gastronomical delights. Explore the list of participating eateries and make a reservation. Through Sunday

From my notebook:

  • The Fire Dogs triumphed over the Law Hogs at Saturday's Guns and Hoses football game (formerly known as the Sacramento Pig Bowl). The final score was 7-3 and the victory was a welcome redemption for the Fire Dogs who haven't won the match in seven years. But, really, everyone is winner here as all the proceeds go to area charities each year. (Facebook)
  • If you love going to the movies, make sure you enter to win FREE movies for a year (24 admit one guest passes) at the new Cinemark Theatre at the Roseville Galleria. There is no cost to enter to win this prize worth $240. (Galleria website)
  • Energy costs are up, and users are feeling the pinch. Luckily, income eligibility for the Roseville Electric Rate Assistance Program has been expanded for Roseville residents needing help to keep the lights on. Don’t let the bills pile up! Contact the city’s utility billing division now. (City of Roseville)
