- People aren't the only evacuees from the Mosquito Fire. Placer Animal Services is being inundated with furry friends from the evacuation zones. It has transferred 30 adoptable animals to the Placer SPCA to free up room for a few more evacuees. With all of the new tenants, Placer Animal Services could really use your help with a few additional supplies. The list can be found in this article from Roseville Today. (Roseville Today)
- Many of Folsom's outdoor spaces were closed Saturday due to smoke from the Mosquito Fire. The Folsom Zoo Sanctuary, Steve Miklos Aquatic Center and other outdoor spaces closed on Friday due to smoke and remained closed Saturday, as air quality improved but was still in the "unhealthy" range. Winds were scheduled to change direction over the weekend and the facilities should open again, soon. (ABC10.com KXTV)
- According to a city of Roseville press release "On September 8 the Roseville Police Social Services Unit, Roseville Parks and Recreation and Roseville Code Enforcement completed a multi-day clean-up of the 1600 block of Vernon St near Dry Creek." More than 17 tons of trash were collected and removed from the area, including abandoned property and other debris. If you know of anyone who is experiencing homelessness, please have them call 211 to be connected to resources. (Roseville)
- As of Saturday, Sierra College in Rocklin was open for business as an evacuation center for the Mosquito Fire replacing the Bell Road Baptist Church in Auburn which has closed. More than 60 evacuees have taken advantage of the evacuation center, run by the Red Cross. According to Gold Country Media "Residents under mandatory evacuation can access the shelter, operated by the American Red Cross, at Sierra College, 5100 Sierra College Blvd., in Rocklin (enter on Rocklin Road). Parking will be in Lot B. The shelter will be in the cafeteria (Building J)." Additional community resources can be accessed by calling 211. (Gold Country Media)
- It turns out you're too water-efficient, Roseville! The response for water efficiency rebates was so robust, the city ran out of money for the rebates. According to a press release from the city of Roseville, "unfortunately, at this time, we are not funding rebates for Commercial, Cash for Grass or toilets. However, you can get on our waitlist so that we can reach out to you directly as funding opportunities are available." Rebates are still available for retrofitting inground irrigation systems and upgrading automatic timers. (roseville.ca.us)
