  1. Carson Schewe of Roseville will face murder charges in the fentanyl death of Kade Webb in December 2021. In the preliminary hearing, prosecutors were able to convince the judge that Schewe "knowingly endangered Webb" in order to move forward with the murder charges. This is a first-of-its-kind trial in Placer County, with the defendant facing murder charges for the sale of fentanyl. "Schewe is also facing two other felonies for purchasing/possessing a narcotic for sale on Dec. 21, 2021, and Feb. 10, 2022." (ABC10.com KXTV)
  2. You know that awesome new spillway constructed at the Folsom dam in 2017? The one that wasn’t really used until January? Uh… it’s broken already… $16 million worth of broken! Actually, the project “applied a particular technology that wasn't optimum," said Bradley Call from the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers. The metal rods in the gates that control the water flow have cracks in the coating, allowing water to get to the metal and corrode the rods. That does seem “sub-optimum.” They’re gonna replace the rods, beginning in 2025. (ABC10.com KXTV)
  3. Roseville City School District Superintendent Derk Garcia has a message for district families. With spring about to spring, Garcia wants to remind everyone that attendance is of paramount importance. The district is seeing a downward trend in attendance. He also reminds residents about the upcoming Roseville City School District Foundation’s 2nd Annual Foundation Golf Tournament! Check out his message in Roseville Today.
  4. The Placer Board of Supervisors voted to provide two meals per day to residents of the Placer County Mobile Temporary Shelter in North Auburn. The county will contract with Summit Food Services to provide those meals. Summit Food Services currently supplies meals for the county jails. “We would like to secure meals for these individuals so they can spend less time traveling through neighborhoods to reach businesses on Highway 49, which is the closest food source available," said Marshall Hopper, Chief Probation Officer. (Roseville Today)
  5. The Loomis Basin Chamber of Commerce held its annual awards dinner on February 23. Loomis Town Manager Sean Rabe was recognized as the Business Person of the Year for his outstanding contributions to the town. Council member Jenny Knisley was named Most Neighborly Native for "exemplifying the friendly spirit" of the basin. (Gold Country Media)
