Here are the top stories in Roseville today:

  1. The Maidu Community Center at 1550 Maidu Drive in Roseville will begin offering COVID-19 vaccines starting today. The clinic will operate out of the meeting rooms at the center. “Such smaller sites will give us flexibility to adapt to changing demand with expanded eligibility, so we can scale up or down more nimbly as needed,” said Michael Romero, program manager for Placer County Health and Human Services. Initially, the Pfizer and J&J vaccines will be available. Appointments and information are available and will be continually updated at myturn.ca.gov. (Roseville Today)
  2. The Roseville City Council is accepting applications from citizens 18 or older residing within the city limits of Roseville interested in serving on the Grants Advisory Commission. The commission meets on the second Tuesday of every month at 5:30 p.m. in the City Council Chambers and annually reviews all proposals and grant applications for the Citizens Benefit Fund and R.E.A.C.H. Fund. There is no compensation for the position, but this is a great way to get involved and give back to your awesome community of Roseville! Friday, October 29, 2021 at 12:00 p.m. is the deadline to apply to the Roseville City Clerk. (City of Roseville)
  3. A grass fire broke out on a bike trail in Folsom near the outlets on Monday. Fortunately, they were able to get it under control quickly. At the time of publication, the fire was contained to less than a quarter of an acre and no structures were threatened. I hear it didn't even melt the chocolates at Rocky Mountain Chocolate Factory - thank goodness! (CBS Sacramento)
  4. For the 6th consecutive year, The City of Roseville was selected as a recipient of the Award for Excellence in Information Technology Practices from the Municipal Information Systems Association of California (MISAC). The announcement and presentations took place at the association’s annual conference held September 26-29 at the Westin Mission Hills Golf Resort & Spa in Rancho Mirage, California. Congratulations Roseville! (Roseville Today)
  5. PG&E has adjusted the sensitivity of some of its electric equipment in high fire-threat areas to automatically turn off power faster if the system detects a problem. This could mean more outages for citizens of certain counties including Placer. If that rankles you, or if you have questions about how these decisions are made, the utility welcomes Placer County residents to attend a webinar next Tuesday. Closed captioning will be available in English, Spanish and Chinese. (Placer Sentinel)
