Here are the top five stories in Roseville today:

  1. We've got more good stuff coming to the 'Ville! Kiki's Chicken Place, a locally owned chain known for its chicken tenders and wings (made from grandma’s recipes!), has plans to move in at 1565 Eureka Road. There’s no definitive opening date yet, but check back here for updates. (Subscription: Sacramento Business Journal 1) Specialty doughnuts and Korean-style corn dogs will be on the menu at a new Mochinut slated for 4191 Thrive Drive (near Living Spaces). Again, there’s not a date for the grand opening yet, just a “coming soon” sign in the window. (SBJ 2) And if you need a way to work off the calories from all that great new food, you can head out to West Roseville and bust out a class at Westpark Yoga & Movement at 2310 Pleasant Grove Boulevard (near Kitchen 747). It expects to be up and running by May 2022. (SBJ 3)
  2. When the management of Sacramento’s West Wind Drive-In stated they wanted to reopen the popular movie theater quickly after a fire last week shut down operations, they weren’t kidding. The show must go on and the theater is open in time for this weekend’s crowds. Drive-in enthusiasts are thrilled as this is the only such theater in the region. There will be one difference to note: concessions will be provided by on-site food trucks, for cash only, while management continues repairs to its concession facilities. (ABC 10)
  3. Things are heating up on the banks of the American River, and it’s not even summer yet. Fed up with what they view as inaction on the part of local government to deal with illegal camping along the river, the American River Parkway Foundation is demanding the City of Folsom and Sacramento County remove the encampments. Caught in the middle of the issue are what is estimated to be a couple hundred unhoused people calling the riverbanks home. View this video segment to see what two community activists and a riverbank camper are saying on the subject. (ABC 10)
  4. San Francisco 49er fans are getting amped up for the big playoff game on Sunday against the Los Angeles Rams. Probably the most excited fan in our area is the mother of Elk Grove native and 49er power player Arik Armstead. Christa Armstead spoke with FOX 40’s Richard Sharp Friday about Arik’s accomplishments, both on and off the field. Arik may be known for being humble about his defensive prowess, but his mom is more than happy to do the bragging for him - as all moms should! Make this video segment part of your pre-game rev-up for Sunday. (FOX 40)
