Here are the top five stories today in Roseville:

  1. Earlier this week the Roseville Police Department Motor Team did a saturation operation of traffic and speed enforcement on Atlantic Street between Yosemite and I-80 and on Eureka Road between Douglas Blvd and E. Roseville Parkway. Today the team partnered with Rocklin PD’s Traffic Unit to enforce red light violations at Stanford Ranch Road and Five Star Blvd. near a very popular gas station. They want to remind everyone to slow down and observe posted speed limit signs. Speeding tickets are not fun. (City of Roseville, California Police Department via Facebook)
  2. The Roseville City Council did not make a decision about a site for the Gathering Inn. "The Gathering Inn is a nonprofit organization that provides shelter and accommodations for those experiencing homelessness in Placer County," according to the Roseville Press Tribune. The site in Roseville is intended to be a medical respite sight after those experiencing homelessness have been discharged from the hospital. The issue for some Roseville residents is that the site is at 300 Elefa St. which is approximately 800 feet from Woodbridge Elementary School in a residential neighborhood with children present coming and going from school. The City Council agreed with several residents that not enough outreach had been done by Gathering Inn. “We have the community here,” said Roseville Vice-Mayor Bruce Houdesheldt. “Some who understand, recognize and support medical respite but some who need their questions answered. You don't need to rush this process. You need to do that outreach.” (Roseville Press Tribune)
  3. An 18-year-old Lincoln male and a 16-year-old Loomis male lost their lives in Placer County on Thursday night in a single car accident. The Mini Cooper they were in collided with a tree and burst into flames. Speed is likely a contributing cause, according to California Highway Patrol Officer David Martinez. Alcohol does not appear to be a contributing factor, but that will be confirmed with toxicology. The names of the victims have not been released. (Gold Country Media)
  4. According to City Council Member Scott Alvord, "The Roseville Postmaster has received permission from the city and property owners to place new mail boxes throughout western Roseville. They are also looking into placing more boxes as new developments throughout the city continue to expand." He is still working on a future Post Office on the west side. (Facebook.com)
  5. The town of Loomis will soon be home to the first public garden in Placer County. The University of California Master Gardeners of Placer County will open the garden at the Loomis Library & Community Learning Center at 6050 Library Drive in downtown Loomis. There are 170 Master Gardeners in the county with 12 in Loomis, said Sandy Fitzpatrick, president of the Placer County Master Gardeners chapter. Loomis Town Council members voted 4-0 to approve the memorandum of understanding, with Councilman Danny Cartwright absent. (Gold Country Media)
